balance my checkbook every month

You’d think being a business major in college I would have done this, but no, I’m freakin’ lazy and online banking actually tends to act more as a crutch than a useful tool.

No more. From now on, when the monthly statement comes in the mail it’s getting balanced and filed.

This month’s bills are paid and the checkbook balances. I didn’t want to do it tonight but I made myself sit down with it. Now I don’t have to think about it for another month.

This goal came about because I spent 4 hours Friday night trying to balance the checkbook. I had to get out old statments from March before I figured it out. I am not doing that again.

I finally caught up; reconciled the last couple of months of 2005 and then January of ‘06.
