Nutrition is what it is all about! I need to eat a better balance. Make sure I am getting enough protien and combining food correctly.
I was a vegetarian when I was a teenager and though I didn’t do the best job of it – eating mostly the side dishes from meals prepared for me and probably not getting proper nutrients – I still felt healthy.
Earlier this year I tried to drop all meat except fish to become a pescetarian and even though I thought I was doing a much better job – getting protein from tofu, fish, etc. – I must have been eating too many starches because I gained 12 pounds in less than 2 and a half months. As soon as I added meat back into my diet I lost all that weight again.
But eating animals just doesn’t sit well with me. It causes me a lot of mental anguish and then there are all the other environmental and health related issues on top of that. It is becoming more and more uncomfortable for me to eat animals.
So, I think when I get back home, I’ll try pescetarianism again as a stepping stone to vegetarianism. I’ll be extra conscious of trying to find well balanced meals that fill me but aren’t carb/starch heavy. I’m also going to ask the president of our Alive magazine branch at work about taking the Vegetarian Nutrition course the Alive Academy offers (hopefully for free).
This, like so many of my other goals, just has to do with being mindful! less carbs, more actualy fruits and vegetables.
I have been avoiding carbs like the plague. Or at least white food carbs. Also, I’ve started eating eggs every morning, which is a protein source. Nice. And I didn’t think I liked eggs, but they’re alright. Especially fried. Alot of corn and tomatoa nd mozzarella salad, mmm. And some grilled cheese. yesterday I had evggie tempura, which was fucking delicious. And pizza with green pepper and onion. I would rather have more fruit in my diet, but there isn’t any great fruit here right now…for some reason all the berries look a little sinister.
But I do have a mango that will be gobbled down later.
My mom swears I am “addicted to carbs”. She is an ex-Atkins dieter…so that’s that. But I do agree partially, everything I eat is carbs. pasta, potatoes, bread. So for the grocery list I asked for all things that are actually fruit or vegetables EXCEPT my one wonderful carb, rice. Basmati rice, mm-mmm.
More fruits and vegetables! Less chips and less food that is unhealthy, but happens to not have meat.
