we got one 2 years ago

we (i mean, my hubby)just got his first harley. it’s waiting at the shop to be picked up. i’m posting this as a warning to all those wives out there who tell their hubbies that they can have one. first things first: look in to taking a motorcycle course several months in advance and book it and take it. it saves money on insurance, and makes it a lot easier to get the bike when it’s ready. 2. check out insurance companies and see who you’d like to go with for insurance. look for any other discounts as well. 3. check with a dealer (or someone who owns a harley) to see all of the other crap that you “have” to buy when you get your new bike (ex. it’s just not cool to ride a stock bike apparently. your hubby will go behind your back and purchase these “necessary” additions like handlebars and pipes. also, a new air filter? doesn’t the bike come with all this crap? it’s not like you go to buy a car and you have to go to walmart first to buy filters. i don’t get it.) 4. helmets. they can be expensive. go to a store and try them on. find the one you like and then search for it online to get a better price. remember- timing is key. if you wait too long to get the helmet, you’ll end up buying one on the spot at the harley store. 5. attire. it gets cold on that bike, so you’ll need to buy weather appropriate gear. also, the right shoes are needed to ride. and maybe a reflective vest. so far, that’s all i’ve got. but i’m sure there will be more to follow. we haven’t even got the bike yet and i’m already wishing i’d just said no for a few more years…..

    First Bike 2 years ago

I bought a 2000 Sportster 1200 Custom back in March of this year. It’s great. I love it. There’s no other community like the Harley community. The motorcycle community as a whole is great, but when you ride a Harley it’s even better. It’s kinda hard to explain unless you have one…when you get yours…you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Fatboy is the way to go. 3 years ago

Harley Softtail(probably a fatboy) is what I’m shooting for. The price…oy, but once I own it I’ll never sell it.

But which one? 3 years ago

I’ve had other bikes before (2 Japanese and a BMW), but after test-riding a few Harley’s at a local dealer I’m totally hooked!

I’d really love the new Street Glide as I’d absolutely love to go on some long tours. But I’ll probably end up with one of the less expensive Dyna models as they’re much cheaper – yet still pretty damn cool.

Once I lose the weight the wife says I can purchase the bike.
    Oh yea!

    TERRIFIC! 3 years ago

I’ve owned a motorcycle for 25 years, but didn’t ride it much. Decided to buy a Harley-Davidson, during the end-of-season 2005 sales, and got an excellent deal on it. I could not be happier. Love riding my hog!
