How to live near the ocean
How I did it: As a kid, I chose a beach and walked the oceanside business zone, applying at every restaurant/hotel I passed, until I was hired. My benefits included room and board. In warm weather, it gave me a secure place (and free parking) and easy access to everything. In the Winter, it was a peaceful paradise for photography and contemplation.
Lessons & tips: On obtaining work to sustain you: If you are new to the hospitality industry, do some research on every company you apply to, whether you are beginning at a donut shop or a five-star spa. Expect to make mistakes, but work hard, listen, learn and move forward until you feel comfortable in your work. Learn to carry yourself with confidence,be honest and gracious, say what you mean, and always mean what you say. Finally apply at the more opulent establishments, and project that you belong there, because you do. Avoid getting involved in anyone's politics, and try not to take anything personally. Be professional and courteous, always. And on your blessed time off, walk the perimeters... explore the pinnacles... get to know the people around you... take notes, pictures, recordings... and absorb as much of the natural beauty as you can.

Next spring I’m moving to San Diego and transferring to UCSD! Wish me luck!
sweetcammy is good
I would not mind living next to the water as far back as I can remember I have always wanted to live in a place I could open up my door and see the water in front of me,
what a great way to wake up every morning with a cup of coffee in one hand a view of the water ahead of me, taking a walk along the beach what a great way to start your day…....
i love the ocean. that’s the best way to put it if u guys don’t want a twenty min. rant. haha.
WhiteRhino mad cool
i say to anyone who wants to live by the ocean, go for it. stationed in okinawa japan on an island thats only 7 miles wide and 70 miles long, you’d be suprised how much beach there is. wakeboarding, scuba diving, snorkeling, theres so much to do, its so beautiful and relaxing. i don’t ever want to have to move back to ohio.
I’ve seen the ocean three times in my entire life, but every time it has been inspiring to me. I keep a 55-gallon fish tank at home to remind me of it.
I’ve lived in Nebraska all my life, but I want to live for awhile near the ocean. It doesn’t even have to be tropical (thought that would be an added plus!)
The minimum for my goal is to live near an ocean for at least two years. I think I could easily get away from family and friends for that long, and it’s long enough to enjoy it and find some ground, but not so long that I would be stuck there if I decided I missed Nebraska more.
Though at this point, I definitely think I could live the rest of my life by the ocean.
living near the ocean is beautiful but most of the areas near the ocean are very expensive. People near the ocean tend to be more sensitive which can be both good and bad.
I live in Los Angeles, and let me tell you: living near the ocean changed my life! The weather is cooler; the air is cleaner; and best of all, I now ride my bike all the time!
This is a fantastic goal!
This is a link to small house plans to build a small house, of all things. But the nicest part is how cheap they are to build. With a smaller than average plot of land, this goal might be realized sooner than I had hoped for.
