nicolasc wears purple for her grandmother - November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. The most lethal cancer, yet receives the least reasearch funding...
Having to click “I give up…” Well, here goes. Setting this one aside for now as well.
How I did it: I planned, trained, studied, traveled and just did it. I was in really good shape (for me) when I passed the final test. I was not completely satisfied with my level of preparedness, and the test that year was too easy to give me a sense of accomplishment, but overall, I was happy with the experience.
Lessons & tips: Don't accept weakness (mental or physical), meditate, keep your chin up, and make it happen!
Resources: WKSA textbooks, handbooks and videos. Seminars and workshops, classes twice a week, and a never-give-up mentality.

Looks like I never noted when I got my yellow/black belt. Now I’ve skipped orange and on to green.
Thanks to an auto accident and a broken arm, I haven’t been able to do Kung Fu in a while, but I’m trying to progress some by watching movies, reading books, and meditating.
Mistakenlymistified is battling the rain to train for TKD
I won’t be able to commence training until this September, because I reside in the middle of nowhere, with no dojo’s, and no possibility of getting to one. I have found a number of TKD and shotokan dojos close to my university, and will be beginning with a novice white belt in the fall. Until then, I am training and conditioning in order to get into optimal shape for katas and sparring in September. Do you have any advice on what I should focus on?

I want to become something that will make me more confident when I walk down the street alone. So far, I’m only a white belt, but my grading is this 3 weeks from now! It’s going to be hard [For me =.=], but I’ll get through it. I can’t wait to learn more. =D

I’m rubbing my sore legs and wondering why I do this to myself. I went 39 years without knowing how to kick anyone, never wanted to, never needed to. I won’t quit, though.
Every time I consistently practice karate my life always gets balanced. I look at the world maturely and with a more realistic optimism not just whimsical dreaming. It teaches me to respect the things that are most important to me and gives me strength to protect them. I’ve achieved an orange belt and dropped out. Now I know I need to get more advanced because I’ve decided to put my best foot forward in life and I know I need to be rooted in this art.

I got my yellow belt tonight. Another step up the ladder.

So, as of tonight I officially have a white belt. Not much a guess, but it’s a start. It may be the first rung on the ladder, but both feet are off the ground.

My muscles are starting to adapt to the motions and stances of Kung Fu, so I’m feeling more confident and capable as I go about learning. I’m starting to enjoy punching the bags.

Outside of class I have doubts whether we’ll continue beyond 6 months. It’s shaking up the schedule status quo getting both of us to class two nights a week. Something has to give, and it looks like the other fitness activities I love will suffer.
But when I’m in class I having such a good time, learning so much, and getting noticeably stronger and more flexible, that the doubts don’t seem so bad.
So who knows what the future will bring. I guess I really shouldn’t worry about it, and leave the 6 month decision in the future where it belongs.
