Superdude57 you've had your chance so say goodbye Say goodbye
I now have a road bike!
I’ve thrown in my lot with the Trek to Re-Energize America. We’re taking a northern route, scheduled to leave May 18th and get to DC by July 27th.
I would like to bicycle across the US…. preferable west to east… fully self supported.. hopefully would average at least 50 miles a day.. and carry all or most of my gear… only staying at a motel perhaps once every other week…
Got panniers (bike bags) and figured out a pretty nifty way to attach an old backpack to the rack.
I’m also looking at building up a few fixes over the next year, so hopefully that will help me with basic maintenance issues (and the other bike goals).
I’ve also been casually looking into routes, teams, tours and teams. I’m kind of toying with the minimum amount of resources I could do this with.
So far steps I’ve taken to achieving this goal:
Avoided any longterm, serious, romantic relationship with anyone.
Got a bicycle, a rack, and safety wear.
SurlyAardvark is moving, slowly but surely, on some of these goals...
I did this in 1986 as a 17 year old. It took 39 days of about 100 miles per. It’s very worth doing! This country is beautiful in all its variety and the people are the best (in all their variety). Look up Wandering Wheels (http://www.wanderingwheels.org/) and get started!
Much like sailing around the world, I’d like to bike across the USA so I can get an upclose look at the Nation. It would take a very long time and I think it would be great fun.
