Getting over it 14 months ago

I am god awful scared of spiders, any other insect just give me the normal creepy feeling most people get. If I even see a daddy long legs, I get quite annoyed and maybe a little panicked because one got in. Imagine if another type of spider got in. :( So as a little experiment I’m doing, I’m gonna get over this in the old fashion way baby steps and a leap.

So 1st step; Crab spiders, the little ordinary ones. I observe quickly, nothing happens. I get closer, nothing happens. I get close enough with arms reach, still nothing. So I touch the web, It doesn’t make me panic as usual when I run into their webs by accident. So I break off some of the web, the spider startles, I take a step back and it just goes and re-does what I removed. Here is the kicker, I poked the spider from the other side of the web, lol. I got two feelings triumph and excitement, but that was only one itsy bitsy crab spider. This following I’m going to pet a tarantula … just to get it over with and prove to myself, nothing can hold me back. I’ll post a small thumbnail so you guys don’t freak out, too.

It's really bad... 20 months ago

This is something I seriously want to overcome. Just the word gets my body to shiver… The nightmares I get are also one of my biggest probs… They wake me up 3 times a night. So I don’t get that much sleep either. Darn it!

There’s a pretty big spider that lives on the wall above my sink. I see it everyday, I don’t bother it, it doesn’t bother me, perfect, live let live, whatever. However today when I looked up I no longer saw it, my panic level: +1. Couple of minutes later, just as I was flushing my toilet I saw it above my toilet in the corner of the wall, pnaic level now: +3. I decided not to kill it because a) I’m scared as heck and b) maybe the spider wanted a change of scenery and wanted a new home.

Anyway, few hours later I went to town on that mofo when I saw it had travelled across to the garbage can. My panic level went through the roof at that point. Travelling/exploring spiders in the bathroom not to be tolerated. Yikes I would be paranoid everytime I went to the bathroom.

it’s a great idea .. but does it make sense that i don’t even want to do the course for fear of getting over my fear? i’m scared of even being a person that is ok with picking a spider up in their hands. i often have that dream when there is a big fat scary spider sitting on top of the big red button that will detonate the bomb that is going to destroy the world. everytime i wake up devastated that there is nothing that i can do but let them explode into smitherines. lucky for me the course has already run this year.
