Having played in bands for years, music has always been very important to me. Depending on my mood, I like to think that I have a pretty diverse taste (with the exception of country and most rap). I have everything from Enya to Motorhead in my cd collection. But I have always liked the fringe bands more than the stuff that they play on the radio. Most of the big radio stations are too corporate and play the same stuff nationwide. Most of the new metal bands all sound the same to me, and when the singer starts the cookie monster growl, I can’t listen to it. I can’t understand why actually singing in a metal band is becoming a lost art. I listen to a local college station since they at least play some variety; alternative, punk and even some goth and techno.
The last few weeks I have really been digging deep to find some new bands to listen to. I stumbled across The Real McKenzies, a Scottish punk band from Canada. Its pretty cool to hear bagpipes in a punk band. I also picked up some Avenged Sevenfold, a metal band, and the Caesars, a pop/ punk band from Sweden. Most of the bands I really like are either from Sweden or the UK these days. There are still a lot of really good bands and music out there but you just have to dig a little deeper than the junk thats played on the radio.
