I am honestly amazed that the “tangible photos” portion of this goal is complete! I have 5 years of photos that I’ve put in order (yes, that’s longer than I’ve been married), so it took some work compiling the pictures that were taken from 3 different cameras.
The photos are now in 3 different numbered boxes and need to be put in albums, which thankfully I have.
The next part of this goal will be to organize the digital files, which I don’t think will take me as long as it took to organize the tangible part, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for it! 2 weeks ago

Feeling a little tired, I continued organizing today. Wow, I really made strides! I put them all into chronological order and into a photo box where they will be transferred to an album. The only ones left are the ones that somehow didn’t fall into order when they got printed. I’ll have to look at the digital copies themselves to get dates. Sadly, there’s about 100 of those, but it’s a great feeling knowing that this will be complete soon. 2 weeks ago

this monumental project. Suspect no one will have more than a passing interest in the pics but me, but that’s probably good enough. 1 month ago

grows and grows. Finding a specific pic is often a hopeless task. This project will require at least 100 hours of work if I’m going to make even decent progress. And lots of patience. 3 months ago

about 500 pics over the Christmas holiday, mostly of my nieces and nephews and rest of my far-away family. That was a couple weeks back. Now my father and a few others would like to see some of them. Time to start polishing a few of the best and deleting the bad ones. Must make time for this. 4 months ago

Made some good progress over the holiday weekends in getting photos organized. The photos are organized under Family, Friends, Travel and Misc. Under the first three, the photos are organized by Year. Misc is a catch-all for now. The classification decision was my biggest headache and had me stymied for a long time. Now that I have made a decision and started organizing the photos, it is going much quicker.
Still need to:
a) consolidate photos from the various computers at home
b) download photos and videos from all the phones in the family
c) shut down the various online photo albums/accounts once I have verified that I have a copy of the photos on my computer.
d) Take a backup on an external hard disk
e) Scan/digitize old family photos and slides
So glad to be finally making some progress on this! 4 months ago

such a time-consuming project, I’m reluctant to start on it. My collection is in dismal shape. 7 months ago

I made a dent in the pile of pictures. I got a lot put in albums and put some more in order. It took a long time, there’s still more to do, but the labor is well worth it. 8 months ago

1) went ahead and bought Aperture
2) imported every photo I could find on my computers
3) took a backup and then another backup
next step is to sort through the jumbled mess that is my Aperture “library”, figure out a workflow that suits me (probably using Albums, Stacks and ratings) and get processing on those mountains of pictures that are in dire need of some loving. 9 months ago

I’ve got a version of Adobe Photoshop. I’ve no reason not to start organizing my pics now. It’s a ridiculously huge job. I have over 10,000 images of my own, not to mention those of my father and both my grandfathers’, among other family members to work with. If I had about six months time off, I could get this done. 11 months ago

I’m super organized about my pictures. They are organized according to year, then the month, then by event name followed by date.
Each month is numbered as in how they go chronlogically.
1 – Jan
2 – Feb
3 – Mar
etc.
In each month, I have description title followed by (DD-MMM-YYYY).
You do have to know approximately when it occurred and the name of the event. I thought about tagging people, but that just takes so very long, and I don’t want to put the tags on the internet due to privacy issues. 18 months ago
