How to make my own prom dress
It made me
darn good 
"Blood, tears, and needles."
How I did it: First, I made a design. Being traditional and conservative, I wanted something that would cover my shoulders and in a solid color. I also wanted something that would flatter my body shape (pear). I decided on a simple princess-cut bodice with shoulder cuffs, and a tulle skirt. Obviously, I chose black. After that, I took down my measurements with the undergarments I would be wearing underneath, and started drafting a pattern; YES, I made my own pattern =D The rest was pretty easy, but I got lazy. I could have finished it in two days if I had gotten off my butt.
The invisible zipper got to me though. I had never worked with one before and I had some quality bonding time with my seam ripper while figuring it out.
Lessons & tips: Always, always have a seam ripper handy!

I started designing my prom dress my freshman year of highschool. I knew I didn’t want anything from a store. I wanted something unique, a little renaissance and not at all gaudy. I just can’t stand all the the glaring sparkles and rhinestones on most prom dresses. I needed something simple and elegant. I chose cream and rose colors with a double skirt and laced bodice. The dress weighs about 40lbs and is simply amazing. My mother was my seamstress, she sewed everything but the seam in 24 hours. What an amazing woman!
