Drive up the California coast

My girlfriend and I are looking to drive up the California coast. We will be leaving LA sometime in the end of June and heading up towards San Francisco. We are both in our early 20’s and just looking to have a good time, we are thinking of doing the whole winery thing but not certain. We are looking to be gone for about a week. If anyone has any suggestions that might help us make up our mind or plan our trip I would appreciate it.
