Cook an amazing thanksgiving dinner

Wow …
What a great meal.

The turkey turned out OK. I injected the breast with a mix of bourbon, OJ and butter. That really didn’t accomplish much.

What it DID do was create REALLY REALLY good-tasting drippings. I used the drippings to make a REALLY REALLY good brown turkey gravy.

The candied yams were a big hit.

The Eggnog Cheesecake was also a hit.

But the Toll House Cookies were the biggest hit.

1. Roast turkey – On it’s way to being nice and crispy

2. Homemade Cranberry Sauce—Came out like a solid block of lollypop. Currently dissolving in boiling water to see if I can recover it.

3. Candied Yams … probably gonna turn out ok.

4. DaveFer’s Wickedly Delish Eggnog Cheesecake—turned out fantastic.

So by all accounts it was a smashing success.

Two turkeys
Mashed Potatoes
Cranberries (secret recipe mwahaha)
Balsamic and honey glazed green beans and pearl onions
Bread pudding with whiskey cream sauce
Bourbon laced sweet potatoes
Home made cheese onion bread
Deviled eggs
and my grandma made pie.

The best part of the day? besides the 9 hours of cooking? I got to spend about seven hours all by myself with my grandma. And we talked about all sorts of things. It was lovely. I haven’t had that much uninterupted time with her for years.

We also had the dinner at my house, which is the first fairly major even I’ve ever hosted.

Next year I hope it’s even bigger.
