Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

As of today, you will be able to download your goals and entries. See more about that on the FAQ page. Thanks for 10 great years of goal-setting and achieving.

EllieFuntLast trip of the season!

Just got home. It was a cool autumn weekend. Rained on and off. But it didn’t stop us. Even got in a 6 mile bike ride through the rolling countryside.

trailer is being winterized. Now to dream about next season! 12 months ago

EllieFuntPlanning our September outing

It’s our 16th wedding anniversary. I suggested that dh & I go camping alone for that weekend.

Now I need to see where I want to go. The rules are:
1. must have fishing. (can’t get away from that)
2. must have bike/hiking trails.
3. quiet
4. maybe a nice little restaurant in town we can visit for either breakfast or dinner. We rarely do that – but I’d like to since it’s our anniversary.
5. Within 2 hours of home. 14 months ago

EllieFuntNext trip

To Oregon, Illinois. State park there is lovely. Normally it’s a favorite to visit in the fall. Love seeing all the wild turkeys.

Looking forward to this trip. Side trip to the Ogle County Fair is always a nice treat. 15 months ago

EllieFuntMorrison Rockwood State Park

Lovely state park. Very wooded and quiet. Super hot on Thursday and Friday. Way too many gnats. It was like a torture chamber – not that I know what that’s like but have a feeling this was close. Torrential down pours all day Saturday on and off. Stopped long enough for us to drive to Antique Archeology – you know the American PIckers store? Pretty cool to see. Fished on the Mississippi and lunched there. Great weekend. Glad to be home. 16 months ago

EllieFuntLast trip of the year

Went last weekend. Cold! 29 degrees at night. High of 39 during the day. Campfires all day long. Leaves crunching under our feet while hiking.

Going to miss it. 2 years ago

EllieFunt2012 is the year!

We’re not taking a big vacation in 2012. We’re going to spend our time camping! So excited. I’m going to start planning the campgrounds we want to visit. 2 years ago

EllieFuntOur weather

has been horrible this summer. If it hasn’t been 100+ degrees out and humid – it’s been storming horribly. Add to that, my husband has been remodeling our 2nd floor.

We did manage 1 outing as soon as school let out and we’re now in the process of planning another before school starts. Hoping to squeeze in a few in the fall. I love fall camping! 3 years ago
