I’ve been thinking about revisiting this goal, as it’s sort of rotting away on my 43T list. Last year I put in a lot of focus on noveling (writing and revising my NaNo, which will probably never be done), and essays for school. My English teacher thinks I made this great improvement as a writer under his instruction, because my first essay for him was just terrible because I was bored by the prompt, and then all the rest were of normal quality. I’m a little annoyed that he thinks he’s helped me “reach my potential” because he didn’t really teach me anything about writing itself. Ranting aside, I’ve realized it would be good to focus on short fiction for a little while, because
A: I have written almost nothing outside of school since February (!!)
B: I could probably write a short story in 2-3 weeks, and
C: I need to work on dialogue (&word choice in general, let’s be honest) 2 weeks ago
Finished the ten I set out to do. They’re not masterpieces but at least I had to get over myself and did them! Will start the same thing now again with different prompts 7 months ago
Seven is again not a real short story, but then again 8 is, so I’m happy enough 8 months ago
both done although one is not a real shortstory. more like thoughts on some of the things that went on the last week. 11 months ago
They’re all no beauties but I really had a hard time just getting over the fact that it is only practice and practice doesn’t have to be perfection! 14 months ago

as well, i wrote down prompt for all ten of them so that i now have a rough plan 18 months ago
Was thinking about entering this ( http://paulmalmont.com/contest ) contest…until the fine print told me you have to be 21. (I suspect it’s a legal thingy.) Maybe I’ll look for another. To anyone who likes to write sci-fi short stories though, check it, the prompt seems pretty cool. :) 2 years ago

2: Nerves on the Mind
I wrote “no light in the attic” a couple months ago, but I just finished “Nerves on the Mind” this morning. It’s about a deliveryman with a social phobia who has to deliver a package to a retired widow who is obsessed with brains, approx. 850 words and three hours total. (Pretty short, but I think it’s right for the story.)Summer’s great for this goal, I can get up and knock some writing out without going to school first. :P 2 years ago
