sugarfig is doing everything she should've done all last month.
I never decorated the last house because it never really felt like my house. It will be nice to have my pretty stuff around me.
How I did it: I amassed a collection of stuff from my past, found objects, new stuff I found in big stores and small stores and old stuff I found at thrift stores or in other friends discarded piles. I wanted some original art, but can't really afford it. Then I put it all where I thought it should be.
Lessons & tips: Never underestimate the awesomeness of resale shops or ever doubt your own creativity.Â
Resources: thrift stores, target, local craft stores, bargain bins

I am so itching to check this one off! I moved into my place two months ago and I took care of almost all the decorating right away. I just have two things left to do before this one is complete.
I am big into bulletin boards and I love to make big collages of interesting cards, photos, pins and such. Since my new apartment is rather more grown up than my last one, I feel that a cork board is too ‘college dorm’ and I want something more attractive. I got the idea from Blueprint magazine to affix modular carpet tiles to the wall for a bulletin board, but they were going to cost over $120 after shipping, so no go. I am still looking for a nice piece of carpeting to use, then I will be all ready to create a new collage.
The second thing is that I want to buy a purple orchid in an attractive pot to put on my desk.
Since I started playing hockey, I haven’t worried about decorating. Plus, I’m going to be moving soon into an apartment with a roommate most likely. Maybe I’ll pick it up again then. Right now I’d say the priority is getting rid of a lot of my stuff. Then moving. Then decorating. Maybe.
This has pretty much taken a back seat for now – some kids in a SUV driving around in the parking lot behind my house hit my wall one night a couple weeks ago. Until that gets fixed (and my floor which is sinking in one corner) I’m not going to bother trying to decorate.
I bought a cool rug and a couple washcloths to match it. Couldn’t pony up for the towels yet, but I’ll do that soon.
I put one of my prints up on the wall. ONE. I need to put up more because I really just don’t have anywhere else to put them, but… I also do not have much wall space either.
I need a bigger apartment just so I have more places to hang pictures.
This flat starts looking good… Thanks to ikea, people throwing things in the streets, “brocantes” (i don’t know how to translate this), and home-made decoration: paintings, photographs…
I move in this upcoming weekend. Before then I want to purge a lot of my stuff. It’s difficult though, because I have a lot of art supplies, and even if I haven’t used it in several years I think “well… I might need that later..” even though, chances are, I probably won’t.
I think I just need to think up some creative storage solutions. Something that’s neat, and not a total eye-sore. Or something I can hide. Might not be easy in a studio cottage with very little built-in storage space.
