I’ve decided to break this up into smaller “chunks!”

A Dent Has Been Made 3 years ago

I’ve lost 21 pounds so far – my physical exam (for Peace Corps medical clearance) is in one week. I’ve got to keep going strong to see how much further I can get before I have to hop on the Dr.’s scale. I’ve got another 44 pounds until I reach my ultimate goal, but I’ve been breaking it up into multiple 10-pound goals so I have more opportunities to celebrate. I want to have the majority of those 44 pounds gone by the end of the year.

Down 12 pounds so far 3 years ago

Kind of startling to realize that I have lost 25% of the weight I wanted to lose!!

People are noticing that I’m losing some weight, but my clothes don’t fit much different and I still don’t see the difference myself. But I’m sure that will come. At least I’m making progress downwards, at about one pound per week.

Slow progress 3 years ago

I recommitted to this goal a little more than a month ago. I had gone up a few pounds since my last post, and finally got fed up enough to actually make a plan to lose the weight. So, since my “re-start”, I am down 10 pounds. It feels pretty good to know I actually can lose the weight. My clothes do feel looser (though not loose enough to justify buying a smaller size yet), and my rings are slipping. I’m looking forward to having to get them resized!

A little background and my goals 3 years ago

I am 21, I have been married for almost 3 years, currently I weigh 210, so my goal weight is 160. My goal is to lose the 50lbs by Dec 22, 2006, the week before our trip to Disney World! I plan on working out 3x’s a week and 1x a week I will do a cardio class.
As far as eating goes, I am adding more water, vegetable and fruit to my diet, and although this is going to drive my husband nuts I am also cutting back on the amount of meat; mainly red meat. (I was a semi vegetarian (ate only dairy and eggs) for about 2 years and my weight was about 110, then after getting married that all changed and I gained 90 in about 8-10 months.) Also I love fish but have never cooked it at home, so I think I will try a few receipes and see how it goes.

I joined this forum for some motivation, as something I have to report to on my progress. So any tips you have would be great appreciated. My email address is jsm7184@comcast.net

Gotta start somewhere 4 years ago

I know it’s possible, but I’ve never had great success in losing weight. I’ve joined some online groups in the past, and been incredibly discouraged when everyone else seems to report the weight simply melting off, and I’m the one who loses maybe a pound or two. Very discouraging. I’m not at my very tippy-top weight any more - about ten pounds below it - and need to lose 50 pounds to get into the very top of the “normal” range for my height and build. I detest “fad diets” and think the common sense way - eat less, exercise more - is the way to go. Not glamorous, not sexy, not publication-worthy, but probably more effective in the long run.
