So, I have the opportunity to visit Bolivia this fall for about 10 days. It’s for a trip that focuses on indigenous rights, food sovereignty, and the social and political movements going on down there…and I’m a little terrified to officially sign up for this trip. Not sure if it’s fear of the unknown or safety or what that’s holding me back…but I need some courage. Anyone ever visited there?
If you have any insights/comments/shout outs for courage, please send them my way!

Mi abuela es de Bolivia y todo mi vida he querido ver el lugar de su nacimiento. I can’t wait to go someday…after the political strife has calmed down.

I went to Bolivia on a mission five years ago. I translated (I speak Spanish fluently) for workshops given on Montessori teaching methods. Approximately 25 teachers attended. Everyone was so loving. It is the only place I’ve visited, besides Cuba, from which I have left sobbing. When I left Cuba, I was leaving family. In my ten short days in Bolivia, the people I met became my brothers and sisters. I will never forget them.

I put two books on hold, now I must await their arrival. In the meantime I can check websites:
-http://www.enjoybolivia.com, http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/bolivia , http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1069.html , http://www.iexplore.com/dmap/Bolivia/Overview .
I think I narrowed it down to La Paz, Bolivia. This is where my bf was born and where most of his relatives live. I’d rather spend the entire time in a smaller portion of Bolivia rather than trying to see the entire country.

here’s my step-by-step plan:
- check out travel book (918.4) on Tues
- Ask D’s parents about Bolivia
- Express more interest to everyone that I want to go to Bolivia
- Talk to D’s family in Bolivia about visiting
- Make a structured plan for visiting Bolivia
- Wait until D and I are married
- Let D’s Family in Bolivia know that we are coming/arrange meeting up with everyone
- Make Hotel and Plane reservations
- Go!
I’m excited to do this. Obviously this is long-term planning
I want to go regularly every other year maybe…
I want to really visit Bolivia, and possibly live there for a while. I want to stay a minimum of 3 weeks.

I have been all over south america, and I loved bolivia. It was cheap, the culture and people were great, lots to do and see. Take the Coroico bike ride! (gravity assisted was great)

gabby is in Asheville! Dream come true!
I went on a mission trip for a week to Santa Cruz… very interesting place, wonderful people. I saw a lot of sadness like poverty and teens living in sewers, but I saw a lot of joy too. I also was facinated with the plants and birds… everything was new for me!
