BluePlasticStraw is reminding herself that goals are important

Untitled 5 months ago

For now I’m going to count walking to work as my exercise and once that is a habit I’ll add in some weight training. My work has an on-site fitness center and the monthly membership costs less than a week of lattes.

this should be easy, right? 19 months ago

i signed up for volleyball leagues 3 nights / week. that means to make my goal i only have to be creative 2 nights / week. that really shouldnt be hard since i have a gym membership, a pass to state parks, a bike, and a little sister! i just have to remember this is a goal and actually DO it. maybe lifting two nights per week at the gym just to get into routine. plus, i always feel strong emotionally and physically after lifting…

Life interrupts life. 19 months ago

Because life’s a bitch who doesn’t even have an ounce of self-respect.

I didn’t work out on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or yesterday. And you know what? I’m probably not going to work out today, either.

Reasons:
~ Friday – Bill and I find out he’s leaving the day before my birthday for a month.
~ Saturday – My last day full day with Bill. I usually don’t work out on the weekends, anyway.
~ Sunday – I had to say goodbye to my boyfriend for a month due to his environmental consulting job shipping him up to Maine to do… well… I suppose environmental consulting.
~ Yesterday – Yesterday was my birthday. It was also my first full day alone. It was gray and rainy and wet all day, as if my loneliness needed any reinforcement to push it over into “depression”...
~ Today – Well, today I simply don’t feel like it. I’m still in a funk. I’ve been eating and sleeping irregularly (at first it was not at all. I had to resort to substance abuse for that). My body is tired but I can’t go to sleep because it’s only 4:15pm, and I don’t want to wake up before sunrise again today. I’ll get S.A.D. again.

This is a really bitchy entry. I know. But I’m all out of whack. Bill and I spent a year being long-distance due to his career and my school. I childishly feel like we’ve put in our fair share of time apart, so now that he’s gone away, I guess especially since he had to leave the day before my birthday, I’m a grumpy old waste of space.

Meh. Maybe by tomorrow, I’ll get back into the swing of things.

So far, so good, again. 20 months ago

Now that I’m literally back on my feet again (stupid ankle injury), I’m ready to tackle this task…again. I am exercising fairly regularly, though the intensity of my activities varies depending on the day. Monday through Thursday is when I kick ass most: about an hour of kickboxing, 45 minutes of weight training, and twenty minutes of ab work (ten standing, ten lying down). I shove yoga in there whenever possible/necessary. That’s pretty intense and, when you calculate the time and energy energy involved, it’s pretty fair to say that I’m doing more in those four days than most are over the span of five. However, I do also do some mild weight training over the weekend and Bill and I go jogging if the weather permits, so I think that should count as my 5th day.

I’m not making this goal as done until I’m able to keep this routine up for a few more weeks.

I didn’t even realize I still had this on my list. I’ve been exercising about 6 times a week for the past couple of months. I feel much better all over.

As I mentioned in my weight loss entry, I’ve been doing this since June. I’ve lost a bit of weight and I feel so much better when I walk. I also get out in my community and discover things about my town I would never notice from a car or even on a bike. I’ve also gotten an idea of what neighborhood I’d like to live in if I buy a house in this city.

alright, this hasn't been happening. 3 years ago

The past three weeks have been nonexercise-y for me.

It started when my family invaded my house for a wedding. Preparation for said wedding took up most of my time, energy, and will to live. Then the wedding happened and the family was still here.

The last two weeks were spent cramming as much time with my best friend (Jesse) and a few others in heavy rotation. I’m usually not so social, but the end of the summer means the end of our time together. School is a great thing but it means long distances.

Anyway, many people are gone now and I start class tomorrow. If all goes according to plan, my school schedule will serve as the skeleton for the rest of my day. I’ll be able to compartmentalize. Walking when I wake up. Kickboxing or weight training before class. Yoga and work at night. Something like that.

I’m babbling.

I beat my goal yesterday. So, yay. 3 years ago

Last week, I spent a couple of hours each day working on my body. I either lifted weights or kickboxed, and, I did a lot of yoga to warm up for five of those six days (I didn’t do it on the last day because I don’t like doing inverted poses and such while menstruating) and some mild tai chi to cool down. So, I feel pretty good about that.

Also, I think I need to buy heavier weights. It’s no longer a challenging workout for me, this routine, with the weights I’m using now. I think it’s the yoga that’s accelerating my strength.

I find myself feeling good about how I feel a little more often. I can’t complain about that. :)

I haven't proven it yet. 3 years ago

I spent a few days away from home with a friend visiting others this week, so I couldn’t very well start kickboxing air in anyone’s random livingroom. I also hurt my foot up there. I don’t know what triggered it, but tendonitis gave my ankle a “remember me” kiss. We were walking all over, but no more than I’m usually used to. It was probably the rain. Anyway, I didn’t work out yesterday because of that.

But I’m about to work out right now, right?

Yes, right.
