Batch #7 - 29 December 1973 - Mom & Dad's wedding 2 weeks ago

I guess this is fitting, but I had no pictures of my dad in this batch.. only my mom and her side of the family.

The other day, while at my mom’s house, I stumbled across these pics and confiscated them for scanning purposes. At that time she mentioned that she regrets getting rid of her wedding dress.

In this picture, my Grandpa George and Grandma Irene pose with my mom, the bride.

Batch #6 - Summer 1996 - Hanging out in the backyard (jumping on the trampoline, Meredith's birthday, swimming in the pool) 2 months ago

This summer may have been the last time I saw Meredith. She was my bestfriend from grades 4-7 and her family moved from Bartlett the same time we did.. only they moved to Oregon and later Washington. Here, our lives changed and resulted in me no longer wanting to be friends with her. I think about her often and would like to get back in contact with her now.

Here we are, jumping on the trampoline with my brother.

Batch #5 - late 1970s, October 1969, unknown - Babcia working, Uncle Eric and Glenn graduation announcement, Great-Grandpa August 2 months ago

Of the four people pictured in this batch, I have only met one, yet I have heard countless stories of the others.

Pictured: My mom’s mom, who passed about three weeks before I was born. She worked in the cafeteria at a local hospital and is seen here demonstrating the latest in technological advances – a food tray designed to keep patients’ food warm while en route to their rooms.

Batch #4 - Autumn/Winter 1991 - Thanksgiving, Eric's birthday, Christmas 2 months ago

The majority of these pictures were double exposed. I think if I would have gone through these while in high school, I would have thrown them out. Now I think this makes them twice as valuable; two separate memories are embedded in each shot.

Picture – on the left side, my Grandpa George and I on the fabulous velvet couch on what looks like Christmas day. I appear to be reading, and Gpa George was smoking and playing chess with my Dad. On the right side, my brother and I were doing something Thanksgiving-related. I know this because he has a turkey (?) hat on.

Batch #3 - Winter 1991 - my 10th birthday, Christmas, Uncle Roy's funeral, other misc pictures 2 months ago

I love some of the strange pictures that we felt were worthy of taking. Looking back after almost twenty years, I am glad someone took them – pictures of me reading to my little brother on the awesome/ugly velvet couch the neighbors gave us, pictures of my mom’s troll collection on her desk, pictures of me with Smokey when I was taking riding lessons.

Of all the memories that washed over me while viewing this stack, I loved the one with me and my minty birthday cake. Its been 17+ years, and I can still recall how awesome that cake tasted. Here is a picture of it :D

Batch #2 - Autumn 1992 - holiday at Dutch Hollow Lake with Grandma & Grandpa 2 months ago

I really enjoyed looking through these, especially since I was up at Dutch Hollow just a few weeks ago. While there, I was trying to remember when I had been there last, and I think it was in October of 1992.

I have no one specific favorite memory of this trip, but I know I always looked forward to the nightly fires, taking Little Dog for a walk, going out on the lake, and climbing the rocks.

Picture – My little brother & I with my Gma & Gpa’s dog, Little Dog.

Batch #1 - Spring/Summer 1994 - Our house being built 2 months ago

The first envelope full of pictures to scan that I grabbed happened to be of our house being built. Good times.

I love that pictures can bring back the memories and make it feel like yesterday, even if it was 15 years ago.

My favorite memory of the house-building process was as a family, going to visit the new house while it was under construction, and getting McDonald’s (this was a special treat.. and now I laugh because I refuse to eat McDonald’s) and eating it, picnic-style, in our new home.

Picture – my now-23-year-old brother playing on our front porch. Oh, Little Boy..

I have bags of old photos just sitting around and collecting dust. 3 months ago

I do not know that I want the actual pieces of paper with images printed on them, but I do want to preserve the memories and images they hold.

I need to take a few hours, scan them, and post a link to them here.

Goal added: 17 August 2009.

Still haven't started this task 13 months ago

And I’m glad I didn’t try it on my lap top before going away. My laptop crashed – I think I tried to keep too much information on the lap top as it was.

I don’t know when I’ll have the time and the patience to do this scanning job.
