How I did it: Okay I've only been here 2 days and haven't gotten to actually start teaching yet. But I'm here. I made it. And I'm determined to live for the moment in my new life here.

Got all my paperwork in hand, just need to have my background check apostilized and then I can mail it all over to South Korea. So far, I’m more or less impressed with Adventure Teaching for walking me through this.

Teaching English is a really solid way to see the world and stretch your cultural comfort zone while sustaining financial independence. How perfect is that?
I’ve wanted to live abroad for years, but my debts always seemed to get in the way of any substantial travel. That is until my brother told me about teaching abroad. Now I feel foolish for not having researched it sooner.
In February I had arrived in Chiayi, Taiwan for my first attempt at teaching abroad. Unfortunately, shortly after my arrival I discovered I’d walked into a traveler’s cautionary tale. My new boss, who had furnished all the foreign teachers with an apartment, had installed hidden cameras in our bathrooms. So instead of spending my days teaching English to 3rd graders, I spent them in police stations trying to manuever an alien justice system against an old school perv.
I would still recommend teaching in/visiting Taiwan though. I just happened to be unusually unfortunate that time.
But now I’m back in the states and trying to get back on the horse. So next goal: South Korea! And in South Korea, I can not only live a dream, but pay down some old debts too! Pronoiacally SWEET!!!!
Azamy is pushing it, pushing it real good
I’m not sure I’d do this again.
I plan to enroll in a TEFL course in the next few weeks. Its a qualification thats widely recognized internationally, plus many of the companies running the course assist in finding placement for you. I feel I’ve missed too many opportunities to go exploring, and life is to short to sit back and watch as it flies by.
