Ok, fine, it’s not a huge birthday. But the fives deserve some extra celebration too, right? I’m basically going to have a huge party and invite everyone I know. Since I’ll have the party in cold, dark, January I’m thinking of having a tropical theme. Or something like that. Fruity cocktails, heat turned up and everyone in summer clothing, beach towels on the floor (ok, could be a hazard since people might slip on them). Ideas?

I had my birthday party and it was great! Well, I had a wonderful time and I think it was my best birthday ever! :D
and Matt Glass announced, “never have I ever been drunk.”
“—does tipsy count?”
“no, drunk drunk. like shitfaced, passed out in my own vomit.”
[3 hours later]
Kelcie: Is he dead?
Matt Rose: Oh, G-d, he’s throwing up.

I generally have a party every year, and this year, I thought to myself, “I don’t want all the hullabaloo.”
Then my mother got the cancer, and my younger sister will be moving in with me in January, and… it just seemed important all of a sudden to remember to have fun.
The idea of planning it seems overwhelming, but Blinkie will take care of a lot of the details, I imagine. Blinkie rocks, sometimes!
Welll it would have been nice if it wasn’t a combined birthday party, but hey it was still a good time.

I had a cheese party for my 26th birthday last December. I invited people to bring a funky/yummy/interesting cheese of their choice, and either some fruit or wine to share. I provided crackers, pickles, olives, and other noshy things, and gave the cheeses little nametags! It was good fun, and very yummy. We ate, drank, and played board games, like good grown-ups. :)

Yesterday we went to Mom & Dad’s (Markus, Isak, Daniel, Aimee, and I) for lunch and cake and ice-cream and presents. Great presents like Johnny Cash box sets and Lush goodies. Even better presents like… hilarious family time.
I didn’t know you could have so much fun with a toddler and a yoga ball. Then there was sort of a post-meal ho-down where my dad played the banjo and Isak danced around joyfully in his tiny overalls and I wondered for a second if we were back in North Carolina.
Really good times. Although Daniel and Aimee’s pop-info on Michael Jackson’s plan to build a 50-foot robotic replica of himself to roam the Las Vegas desert and shoot lasers out of its eyes scarred me deeply. I don’t think I needed to know about that. I may never sleep again.
I’ll post pictures when I get them. (Of the party, not the robot. I’m not going anywhere near the damn robot. It’ll probably scoop up defenseless children in its monstrous metal fingers and carry them off into the desert to be subjected to unmentionable horrors. Let’s see Law & Order do an episode loosly based on that.)
Wow, I really got distracted here. Must be the old age thing kicking in.

Phase one. Last night I had a girls night out at a hilarious comedy night put on by the Laugh Riot Girls (The ‘sunniest vagina with a day job’ contest). I laughed so hard I cried – tears were streaming down my cheeks. It was wonderful. Being surrounded by brilliant, funny women – how could it not be? (Thanks Sherry!!)
I indulged in delicious mixed drinks called “Monkey Business” and “Almond Joy” ~ Creamy boozy goodness. Afterwards several of us went for a few extra bevies and more laughter, then walked home in the rain (wet laughter). At midnight I turned into a pumpkin, but I had an excellent time doing it.
(Unfortunately my camera juice ran out, or I’d have photos of something other than my wet glasses)
More coming…
