How to contribute to an open source project
How I did it: I thought creating my own might be easier than understanding an existing codebase, plus existing projects in that area weren't under GPL. I worked on it for several months before the first release; it was difficult to decide when to release v0.1.0, but a friend helped push me to make that release. I released a working game with a small sub-set of functionality; I'll promote it more heavily when it reaches v0.2.0.
Lessons & tips: I worked out for myself how working on this project would help me meet my longer-term goals, and kept reminding myself of that.

Must be a module that is used. Changes to code must be deemed acceptable by the community.
Hi ..,
I’m new in open source. Can someone help me how to contribute to the open source project?
There is more to contribute than code, I’m afraid.
There is a tutorial to how to try the waters somewhere. I’ll tack it on to this post when I find it.
OK, so now it appears that I’m taking over the ColdFusion on Wheels project altogether. Gonna need to make a plan for getting others involved!
I just wrote my first page for the ColdFusion on Wheels wiki about Layouts. I’m actually excited to learn more so that I can write more about it!
I’ve decided to help out with documentation and marketing of ColdFusion on Wheels, which is in dire need of both!
Much love to other volunteer open sourcers out there because it is a stretch to make time to contribute!
Hey
Check out http://taskforge.njj.dk/ which is a different kind of open source project and has just launched as a prototype. It’s inspired by open source but not limited to coding. The focus of this site is online collaboration of non-digital products. The prototype needs testers so now’s the chance to be part of this from the beginning or be part of an open source project if your coding skills aren’t super.

I ended up starting two of my own in the ruby community. Monkey Test which is a test runner for ruby/rails tests which provides prettier output and flickrb which will eventually be a yet another flickr library for ruby. Sadly Monkey Test is experiencing some issues right now and i need to carve out some time to sit down and iron all of them out. Flickrb is also in a state of disrepair and has yet to see the light of day. Someday soon.
In the form of an 8.96kb Drupal module!
Hopefully the first of many and the start of a journey to something a little more significant!
