Too cold, landlady thinks 45 deg F is plenty warm enough.
Not enough light… unless they think they could have done better in the snow bank I can’t help with that one.
So they are gone and sorely mourned. But I did get some going and I did actually get to shape some so all in all I did okay with dry run.
I will be trying again when planting season comes and I will apply what I learned to try to make it better this time.

the unfortunate fact that it is the north side of the house and there are only tiny windows may have something to do with it. They are taller every day and bending toward the window so that I have to keep rotating them. Hopefully they don’t suffer too much from this.
My back up seeds seem to have sprouted, at least two di and we’ll see how they do from here on out.

Looks like my cinnamon basil is pleased in some fashion right now. I’ve started pruning and shaping one and the other (actually they both came from the same sprout) has begung some interesting regrowth after almost extinction.
I’m going to have to bring them into the apartment by saturday when the temperature is supposed to drop below 32 F.
I’m not sure how they’ll faire in the apartment. Low light and stuffy dirty air from the rest of the house made so many of my first batch die from mold and lack of light.

I cleaned and sorted out some seeds last night from my mums fruits. I devided them up and started half of my apples and pairs and a few of my grapes. I did both seeds from crabapples so if they fail or die there is no retry this for another year at least.
I hadn’t planned to start them just yet but they sat in the water after cleaning last night long enough that they might have started, so I figure give half a try and try half in spring. I might not get anything but I really do hope to at least get the grapes. I’ve wanted to grow some grapes for years but had rotten luck with them.
I will start the min bosai kit tonight or tomorrow too. that I had planned on, since that was something I would like to be underway by newyears.

Not only has the new one taken to looking mor like a real tiny tree, but I’ve pruned a low leaf and might be ready to dor some careful directing of it’s growth. But on top of that The original roots have started to send up new growth. So now I have two living cinnamon basil again, but both in very differant styles. The chinese lanterns seem to be struggling but still hanging in there and my dyers woad is weak at best. Nothing ever came of the dragonsblood.
I’ve also got some new seeds to try. I’ve got the tiny bonsai kit from the book store and I took some fruit tree seeds from my mothers trees. Som are going to a freinds family to try and start in the spring but a few might be worth trying to bonsai myself.

I did a little ignoreing and something happened. The sprout/vine grew over to the next empty pot and sent down roots. The thing is that the roots it sent out this time are closer to the crown. So I clipped off the old root stem and am waiting to see how the plant handles it now. But It’s looking like if it wasn’t too tramatic it will start to go a bit better now for the cinnamon basil.
The chinese lanterns and dyers Woad are looking tiny for so late in the season but hopefully I can keep them growing in the winter so that when spring comes I can repot in honest pots, not something slightly bigger then a shot glass.
The cuttings didn’t work at all.
But as a back up I did get a mini bosai kit from the book store today. And I have some seeds for apple pear and crabapple from my mothers house.
Try try again. by new years day I hope to have been able to say I have something like success in this.

this isn’t working at all. I’d set this as a goal for the year and we ar about two thirds through and I got nothin. Just some tiny sprouts that are going to die from the shock of being moved indoors this fall.
Maybe I can still find one at a garden shop. One that is partly established and just tend to it.
Grrr. Stupid green things.

I’ve been playing with these things all spring and summer and I might be able to fit the results into a stirfry. This is taking too long, and with fall and winter approaching they are not likely to make it. I’m trying to cet some cuttings to root indoors for something that might be a bit more hearty.

Well in an attempt to hedge my bets I may have over done it just a tad. my few tiny pots are now so covered in sprouts it almost looks like those containers of alphalfa sprouts you see at the store. Too many too close together, but they’re growing. Unless the deluse of rain that hit while I was out today drowned them. and it is late in the season, so it would seem like a really early frost to them when fall comes. Some might not make it.
This is such a roller coaster. Hopefully I can get a few good plants from this. Just sturdy and nice plants.
I just have to get them past the sprout stage.
