open a cafe

Im 30. A dental hygienist that lives in wisconsin. Im willing to move somewhere cool. I wanna start something small and expand.

I have spent some time writting out what my menu and what my cafe would serve. I would love to learn to cook some really good food instead of hiring someone to cook for me. I love cafes’ somewhere to sit have good coffee and good conversation.

... in this life! Perhaps when I retire…

not sure i want to do this anymore, but if i ever do, it sure as hell won’t be now or anytime in the near future. off the list it goes!

We did it! This Wednesday was our first proper cafe… and it went really well :)

So, hopefully it’ll go from strength to strength and take off in a big way.

For Good Friday (yesterday) we cleared out one of the rooms at the hall, borrowed a load of cafe tables and OPENED A CAFE!! Well, OK, it was for one day only, but it went really well and it showed that we can do it.

We served paninis, baked potatoes, toasties, and sandwiches… it went really well. There are a few problems facing us now though.

1- staff. It’s hard tdo get people to commit to something that will take a lot of work like that
2- space. We literally had to clear a room to make this work, and we can’t do that every day.
3- space (again). The kitchen is cramped… we need to think about that if we’re going to make a go of this.

But all in all, I’m really imressed!

You basically just described my ideal coffeshop! organig veggie cafe!

My siblings tell me I cook and bake better then my parents. I take that as a compliment. My mother started teaching me when I was eight by having me cook frozen pizzas for her. Then after she taught me a few more things I took off from there and now as long as there’s a recipe and the right ingredients I can make any kind of food with some practice. So now I dream of owning a friendly cafe one day where you could come to hang out with friends for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, or just a cup of coffee. There would be tables indoors and tables outdoors. it would be a great place to take a break after shopping all morning or perfect to come to for lunch. the ideal location would be within walking distance of a mall and high schools. pleasamt music playing in the backround, the smell of coffee and sandwhiches in the air. delicious cookies, pastries, and other baked goods for sale. so I’ve come up with a list of things and goals I need to do to be able to start my cafe.
1. Graduate from high school.
2. Go to college and take classes in baking, coffee making, business, accounting, ect but get a degree in something besides a food related degree. Then do internships at various businesses.
3. Go to cullinary school take additional classes in baking. Then take classes in pastry making, and cooking arts.
4. Work for a few years and save enough money to buy a small store and convert it into a cafe.
5. Once the cafe becomes sucessfull open a restaurant using the profits from the cafe.
6. Then build my dream house nearby so I could walk to work.
