Nikola Novak had to give up milk. Lactose intolerance, methinks. :(
I’m generally not flexible, but I’ve begun to do some flexibility exercises. One of them is doing the split. I’ve actually come up with a rather inventive (in terms of making do with scarce resources) solution of how to measure my progress. I’ve made a pile of books and put on top of it a small cushion. Now, every time I do a split, I do it so that I “sit” on top of the pile. Since my “split” isn’t a split yet, but rather more something like spreading legs (and even when put thus it sounds too wide), this alleviates stress on my knees, AND makes it possible to measure my progress. Once I can easily “sit” on a pile (when it becomes more or less comfortable), I simply remove one book off the top and try to “sit” on the so reduced pile. I’ve already removed two books since the time I started the practice, both pretty thick (all are pretty thick), about 1300 pages total, plus hard covers on both books, and now I’m getting ready to remove yet another. To be honest, though, there were a total of 10 books on the pile, plus the cushion. But hey, that means that I’m about 20% done. :) (I know, I know, the progress becomes slower as I get lower. Don’t spoil my enthusiasm!)

14th Sep 09: Stretched properly for the first time and found that stretching at least 2-3 times everyday anytime for about a minute or two works, and I saw considerable improvement in my flexibility. It seems now I can do a full split within September itself!

I didn’t complete this goal by my deadline. It has only made me more determined to do this.

When I was on the track team last year, my coach introduced me to stretching. And man, I love the burning feeling when I stretch. I can touch the floor, put my head against my knees, touch my feet to my head but I can’t do a split! Right now, I’m beginning to work on my split every night!

Injured my ligament three years back while stretching. The pain in the beginning was intense, and when it palliated, I found out the I could not stretch my right leg even a little bit. Hopeless, didn’t do anything for the next two years. Began some exercises to strengthen the muscles a year back, and the strength and flexibility both have remarkably increased. But the memory of muscles is too bad so they can’t retain the flexibility for too long. I need to be regular, slow and patient in order to do a split. Working on it!

Did some basic stretching today. I’m fearful I will not meet my deadline of August 27th.

My deadline is approaching. I need to step it up and stretch twice a day.
