How I did it: I saw a Goupon offering an amazing discount for Hotel du Glace. I bought a plane ticket. I gathered my courage.

I love that i am doing this trip. The interactions are so much different as a solo traveler. Those young whippersnappers are so helpful and kind to me. 16 months ago
Truly is. Grateful for a delayed plane. It gives me time to have my first meal of the day. 16 months ago
The minus ten degrees temperature. That is a nice winter day in Quebec”
the email reply came when I suggested, if need be, I was available a day earlier (as it was the only day forecasted without snow and temperature didn’t have a minus sign in front of it.)
this california girl is going to be cold!16 months ago

I seriously should figure out the warmest clothes this california coast girl has and pack them this weekend.
Oh, and pack for the work trip too. That comes first. even though its my lower priority. hee hee hee16 months ago
I bought gloves that have an exhale heating system which allows you to inject a quick blast of warm air into your hand without removing your gloves (you can use your breath to warm up your hands through a little disc) and you can use your iphone without taking off your gloves (excellent since I decided that taxis will be much safer and less expensive than renting a car), a hat like you see “everyone” wear (but cuter!) and boots that will keep my feet warm when it gets down to minus 32 degrees. I don’t know if that is F degrees or C degrees, but either way, it seemed like a good thing. =) And I think they will stop me from slipping and sliding in the snow.
and… everything was at TJ MAXX so I spent less on everything! Which meant I spent hardly anything at all! Yippee! 17 months ago
and there are a zillion things to do!
Dog sledding, sleigh rides, ice slides, snow rafting, snow sculptures, dance parties, canoe races, skating competitions, everything you can’t even imagine! 17 months ago
it looks like it will be much warmer! =) It’s always good to have balance on a holiday. Adventure and comfort. =)
now…. to figure out the whole dog mushing adventure…. 17 months ago
I totally need to get the other nights booked in some other type of hotel. and a dog mushing time planned. And really warm clothes acquired. And figure out if there are museums I would like to see. Maybe not totally wing it on this trip, considering it is like minus a thousand degrees and I am a california girl! 17 months ago
not knowing I was in London. We talked about my trip, of course, and laughed about the difference I am discovering in traveling on my own at this age, from past travels. He is such a dear. He said any time I wanted to travel he would carry my heavy bags for me. I laughed and said “Oh, good! I’m going to the ice hotel in Canada. You can come on that trip.” He wouldn’t, of course, but we teased about it and it was nice and comfortable.
When I am there, lugging luggage…. the conversation will come to mind and I will wish he were lugging it instead! 18 months ago
I think they will keep my ears really warm. And, I think I look nice in them! 19 months ago
I’d better order some warm long johns. I think wintersilks has them on sale 20% off this weekend. 19 months ago
Transportation to the big city airport booked!
Next thing to do…............ proper hotels or bed and breakfast for the non-hotel nights.
Oh, and think about if I need a rental car and am willing to drive in the snow. i had a terrible experience in the mid-west when I hit a patch of ice on the highway and spun out, in traffic…....... it was terrifying. i notice i am not so keen to embrace an experience like that again. 19 months ago
I was so disappointed about my passport not arriving in time for my Victoria, Canada trip. I have all these “use it or lose it” vacation days to take so even though the Victoria trip was falling through (for this week!) I went ahead and booked the ice hotel.
Groupon had a coupon for it, and with a bit of money tossed on top to book a suite with a fireplace and private spa…...... yippee!
Plus, I have to use the credit for ticket I just cancelled some how. =)
it would be nice if I someone had someone to enjoy this with, wouldn’t it? Maybe next year is my year for that.19 months ago
