One thing I will say is that this is one very time consuming hobbie which can get quite expensive if you let it. I bought a three year old Ficus, and I have several seeds that I had planned to plant soon :) I think, however, one Bonsai is enough for me!
I recommend it, but do your research before you get involved with this hobby. I am no stranger to houseplants, but learning bonsai is sorta like learning a foreign language :P Ok, so it isn’t that hard, but it is very time consuming. A lot of fun tho!

My Bonsai.
I bought it at 18 years, and it’s 21 now :)
I’d been keeping its bushy growth in check vaguely over the last two years, but this year it went nuts! I was away for a week, I come back and it’s like a long haired hippy with all these bushy bits and long trailing young shoots.
Now though, it’s got its shape back and is starting to look a bit more Bonsai and a lot less Bush.

I am sorta new at this one and plan to start it from seed. I am reading up on it now before I start, which will hopefully be by the end of the year.

This goal isn’t necisserry for this year. I move around so much I wouldn’t be able to take care of it properly just yet. But once I’m a bit more settled I want to grow one at least. Botany has always fascinated me. I’m sure I’ll be doing a lot of it in my older years.

Once you’ve really seen a nice tree, it is hard to just turn away and forget about it. The simultaneous feelings of calm and curiosity mingle to make one have to learn more.
I’ve been at it for several years now. I have learned some things, but still have much more to learn. At this time I don’t have any “finished” bonsai, but do have a number that are coming along.

I have just bought a Chinese Yew as a project. It is a nice hardy plant, suitable for indoors. Looks great too.
