Been Thinking A Lot On This 5 months ago

I don’t want to end up like my parents. Both wasted away their youth and didn’t plan ahead for the future and now both are struggling.

I’m going to plan ahead. I’m 28 years old now and I want to have over six figures [preferably seven] in my bank account by the time I’m 50 years old. No thanks to ungrateful persons I’ve helped out recently, I’ve got less than 7.00USD in one and .20USD in the other. In addition to that, I’ve got bills of my own that have gone neglected, but no more.

My plan is to work beyond the traditional retirement time frame but even with that planned, I want to safeguard against the possibility of some grand CF putting a wrench in the works of my plans.

Here’s to hoping and sound and effective planning, budgeting, and a bit of economic flair. Barring that, a super rich relative comin’ out of nowhere at the right now… I mean time. Just kidding LOL. Wait, no I’m not.

First it was credit card debt, then it was student loans, then a wedding. Now it’s the fact that my company decided to basically hand all of us a pay cut. Of course, they weren’t that upfront about it. Nope, instead they waited until there was a horribly crappy economy and ad spending was down before they changed our pay structure. So now, unless every auto maker decides to double or triple their annual ad spending, I will be making less this year. YEAH!

unfortunately, saving money for our next home gets in the way of really setting money aside. i still maintain a solid 401k, but i would LOVE to do so much more.

I saw this thing on CNBC about how to save up a million dollars by the time you’re…I forgot how old…In your 50’s I believe. I can’t afford to put back $300 a month right now, but it made me realize that if I start saving now I can have a very decent retirement fund waiting for me later on in life.

I hope I’ll be able to start! Right now is a pretty rough time, but hopefully it will get easier! Every penny helps!

Plugging away... 2 years ago

I do have a 401k and an IRA. I will soon begin paying off my student loans. I have the house dream and few other things I want to do so I’ll be in corporate America a little longer than planned – I don’t want to have to work until old age – I want it to be a choice. I dont like being idle for long so yes, I would work, but it would be for myself and some charities. I need a slightly larger nest egg.
