With the price of gas, I am learning to drive a lot less. When I drive my car, I check if my neighbour wants to come along, and we hit more than one place in our travels.
When I need to travel 45 kms to the larger town to the south, I make sure I get groceries, visit with friends, attend appointments, etc. to make it worth while.
It cost $42.00 Canadian this morning to fill my beast, and it was on half a tank. ouch

I resisted the urge to get out today and drive. Instead, I stayed home, did some sewing and had a lovely nap on the futon, in the living room, with the sun shining in on me. Gee, I am becoming my cat!
i would ride my bike through a foot of snow before i got my car.
and now i drive the stupid thing if im going to work just a block away
gotta cut back!

The plan is, the car is going to be parked on November 1st, for the winter, as I hate driving in winter anyway, and all the things I need in this little town are within walking distance.
and the library. Walked to the dry cleaners. I feel totally committed to this goal.
Next version of this goal might be more specific – something public transit oriented…
is leaving the company. oh no! It may be the right decision work-wise, but not promising for the carpool situation. Need to find someone who lives nearby – it’s a trek from home to work so these folks are few and far between.
There have been a bunch of new hires in the last couple of months so I have to go fishing for carpoolers (er, I mean, take the opportunity to get to know new coworkers – and see if they’d be game for ride sharing).
probably ended up taking about 20-25 min extra each way door to door. I don’t know how many busriders by choice there are riding, but on a Saturday, there were very few riders period. This seemed to be causing buses to be running ahead of schedule in both directions. Ok by me, since it resulted in (relatively) speedy arrival.
Got about 1/2 way through a really great book over the course of the morning – this in itself a pretty good payback for the extra travel time.
sewing today again. It’s not a bad way to go. Even managed to do an errand on the way back, picking up a new adapter for my computer without having to walk more than a block off the bus route. Urban density working in my favor!
Slightly disturbing…an older man trying to get me to ride in his car while I was waiting for the bus – IN BOTH directions (same guy, miles and hours apart). Hopefully this was just a coincidence, and not some weird stalking thing.
