Got fed up with not having one.
Was at Ikea, and bought the exact desk I was hoping to make.
Done. Thank you very much.

I definitely want to build a new desk for my computer rig. It needs to be something very simple, and I want it to look like an IKEA Mikael (pictured), except have the back piece that hangs vertically hang lower to the floor than on the Mikael.
My question is this: How would I build something in this style (60” x 27”) and keep the top from sagging?
Such was the power of the Desk of Fortune, that men could concentrate for days on end, and bosses who touched it could leave work early to make love to their wives!
Perhaps I’ll start of this goal by drawing it tomorrow?
With their powers combined they form: The desk Of Fortune!!!
i’m thinking of doing some modification to my current set up instead of starting from scratch…let’s see how it goes
i started drafting the design for my 8’8” desk, but i’m so tired the graph paper was getting hard to see. soon i’ll have some numbers and good drafts. i’m really looking foward to it.
I built my desk this weekend. Cut the wood myself and screwed and nailed it all together. It took about 2.5 hrs and about $35 in wood. I still need to put a desktop surface on it. Right now, I’m thinking the stick-on linoleum (sp?).
I went to Home Depot again to find a good surface. I want to use a counter top, but they are a little expensive. So I went to Habitat for Humanity to look for counter tops. Good stuff and cheap but I did not really find what I’m looking for. I need to find a surface before I buy wood so I have enough for the frame to fit the desk surface size. The search continues. Maybe I should try Lowes. hmmmm..

When I first moved to L.A. I was soooo broke. I figured out how to make a desk out of two pieces of pressure board (about $8 each). I think I used one 8×4 piece for the top and the other was cut into two sides and shelves. Back then Home Depot would even cut them for you.
I spray painted it blue and covered the top with clear contact paper and used that for the first few years out here. Not a thing of beauty, but practical!
Finished this on Sunday and although not perfect, I’m not the best skilled or equiped joiner, I’m happy with it. Cheaping that buying a flat pack desk and it fits my needs better too.
Gave up trying to borrow a drill and bought one. Only £11.99. Had to wait for it to charge up and then a friend came over to visit so at about 10:30 last night I finally started. I busy tonight so I’m not sure I’ll finish it until tomorrow.
