My hands dangle about a foot away from my toes… I’m only 18 years old and I’m stiff as a board! So, I’m going to start stretching daily! Hopefully. =P
How I did it: On the first day, I was at my normal flexibility level - I could barely reach past my knees. I just stretched a lot in the first day. On the second day, I was almost down to my ankles. I kept stretching constantly throughout the day. On the third day, I pushed myself a bit more (I'd listen to a piece of music and stretch for the whole length of the song) and touched my toes. Read how I did it…

i can reach a bit past my knees.
this is when i am not warmed up. When i have jogged a bit beforehand, i can nearly hit the ground. However, i want to be able to touch the ground with ease, without having to warm up first. i will do this stretch throughout the day, which should loosen up the muscle and make it easier.
I haven’t been able to do this since I was a kid (even then I’m not too sure). I did actually manage it last night after a night of hard dancing and a lot of stretching, but I want to be able to do it whenever I want.
A secondary goal will be touching my head to my legs at the same time, but first things first.
I’m giving myself a month to get this one.
Hooray. I did it. With in my 1 month goal time as well. I thought I was still a good 10 cm of target but then during second Yoga session today, I just found myself slipping further into a pose, and thought hang on, I think I could reach…And I did.
So the heads up for those trying. Yoga every day, eat very very well and stretch your legs at every available time in the day.
Remember before I started Yoga 6 weeks ago I could barely touch my knees!
I delighted with myself it has to be said…
I started a healthy life about 4 weeks ago and at the time when trying to bend over I could not even touch my thighs. Due to a life without any exercise and not the best diet in the world. (Still a slim Jim though thank goodness)
After 3 weeks of Yoga every morning for 30 minutes (As much as I can do at the moment) I can now down to around 20cms of the floor.
In had set a goal to be able to touch my toes with in 1 month, (dead line 7th June) But I’m not sure if I’ll make it, but I’ll keep trying.
Oh and I now have a set of Calf Muscles. Something I’ve never had…
I used to be able to touch my toes – gymnastics every Wednesday, ballet every Saturday. Then I fractured my right fibula, and the bone healed wonky, so my right foot now permanently rests at an angle to my knee. Needless to say, I stopped gym and ballet, and it even got in the way of yoga, what with all the knees and feet together bits. I haven’t been able to touch my toes for 10 years!
My fingers now rest about 18 cm off the ground when I stretch, and I’m going to see if I can’t shave off that amount centimetre by centimetre!

It took me 16 long years but I’ve finally done it, and I feel so great about it. I took the whole day to bellydance which is so very good to improve your posture and all. Then at the end of that day I did a cooldown to touch my toes as far as I could and then it happened.
I can easily touch the ground with my second joint. It somehow became easier just within the last couple of days.
Also has become almost fun. I really want to count this goal done but want to at least put both fists on the ground first.
Next, palms.
And I attribute it to Ashtanga yoga! I can technically touch my toes now, but it’s not comfortable of perfectly straight. But I am so encouraged! Once I can do this with ease, my next goal will be for my heels to touch the ground when I do a downward facing dog!
I’ve accomplished this goal almost on the first day, but have kept this goal for the reminder of the need to stretch. I’m amending it by the need to place both hands flat on the floor with feet shoulders width apart. Having never been truly limber this will take longer but I’m hoping to eventually to place my forehead against my knees without my back sounding like a haunted house. This is my true goal but I’m breaking it up with smaller goals.
