ar3sera has recovered and is enjoying a good week :)
It’s about 7 years old already – the speakers have just started to sound crackly… it’s gonna have to give a little more before i really up and get a new flat screen… an LG sounds good – can pair up with the dvd player and keep it all in one remote!
LG 42” HDTV (1080p!) from BeachCamera.com – great price – delivered to my door by friendly guys (they drove down from NYC with the TV!!) – awesome picture – awesome aesthetics (sleek black and minimal “stuff” on outside) – perfect size for our living room (not too small, not too large)
Looked EVERYWHERE online and in stores, and finally bought a Vizio. WAY cheaper and good reviews, although not a main “brand.” All of the salesmen told us to buy a more “proven” brand, but we were really lured in by the cheap price. And we LOVE it (now that we got the new HD dish and box). Caveat: About 30 days after the purchase, some of the connections on the back stopped working. Vizio promptly sent a tech out with a whole new board. He changed them out, we put the TV back up and viola, its worked perfectly since then. We saved a bundle and the picture is PERFECT. The bad side? The flat screens do suck you in and we’re watching WAY more tv than we used to, which is a BAD thing. DirecTV has added tons of HD channels, so that just makes our addiction worse.
All in all, I’m glad we are so happy with the TV that was a great deal.
TIP: Go bigger. We bought the Vizio so we could get a really big TV instead of a popular brand in a smaller size, and it’s really pretty cool. Was the right choice for us, since we were on a budget. Makes football season mesmerizing!!
This wasn’t something we’d planned on doing anytime soon, but when our bedroom TV more or less blew up in the middle of the night this past weekend, it sort of forced our hand.
The picture quality is terrific, particularly when watching DVDs. The quality on actual television is not as great, but once we upgrade to an HD satellite receiver (after getting additional new TVs over the course of the next year or two) this will improve.
so we’re in the market for a new one. I’m thinking a mid-size lcd tv is that I want (32 inch or so).
well, as i went through the list of my goals, i had to think about why i wanted this in the first place… kinda superficial and wouldn’t actually improve my life at all :) i’m giving this one up
