my mother had been telling me to read Allende for years and years…she swore by “House of the Spirits”...i somehow found a copy of Eva Luna in my house…perhaps i had stolen it from my mom, or perhaps the fates just decided i really needed to read it and materialized it in our library
her prose is scintillating, erotic and aching
i forgot how much i enjoy a good romance every now and then
and i realized i don’t read enough women authors
Allende’s ability to weave characters into creation is phenomenal…from a transsexual named Mimi, to an Arab who knows nothing but compassion and has a harelip, to an Austrian immigrant who buried dead Jews in his childhood and becomes the world’s most famous documentary-maker….it’s just rich and riveting!! i highly recommend it
