My first job, aged 14, was working on a donut stall at a car boot sale held in an old aircraft hanger. My friends worked on the candy floss and fruit and veg stalls and after work we’d have a wander.
One day we found this abandoned pub/restaurant. It was over 15 years ago but I remember it clearly. The place was all boarded up but we managed to get in and everything was dusty. We sat on some torn up old bar stools and spoke about how we would do the place up.
The things most vivid in my memory are a large jar of ancient pickled eggs we found in a cupboard and the guy we were with shutting us two girls in the cellar full of rainwater and cobwebs!
There have been a couple more over the years – huts and an old naval base – I still find places like that really appealing!

I love doing this! I remember when I went on the overnight at camp, there was one place where you would canoe to where the camp used to be located. So there were a bunch of old broken cabins, and washrooms, and buildings there and me and a couple of people would always go and explore inside those buildings.
I just love that creepy feeling it has, but knowing that nothing bad could actually happen

I don’t do this as often as I used to, but in the last few years there have been a few – abandoned, scheduled to be torn down, out in the woods, burned-out. I find it fascinating, especially seeing the random odd or mundane things left behind. It’s like finding a diary.
Yesterday we found a place out on some farm land. We were obviously not the only ones to go exploring – it looks like a place the local whippersnappers go to party and practice the art of la spray paint, but it was fun to poke around and take pictures.
We found a lobotomized troll doll on the roof there. Not quite as cool as the antique tea set, but still worth mentioning.

There’s something about abandoned buildings that just draws me towards them. I love a good explore what can I say. :P
Piccies of jaunts are found on my flickr page.

There’s a hotel in town next to the library I’d been dying to explore and I walked up there with my dogs once while my sister was at the library. It had two floors, with wooden walkways going between one part of the building and another, and towers on the side. There’s still furniture, like mattress on the ground and propped up against the walls, chairs and lamps. the whole place was quiet and somber, and I really liked thinking about all the people that stayed there, what they were doing in Colorado, and what kind of people they were. I was able to go to the pool even, which was uncovered and half full of water. On the rection desk is a globe, left behind.

Straha is getting ready to teach 1st Grade.
Visited my home town (Logan, UT.) last weekend, and took the chance to scramble around the ruins of an old mill. Located near my high school, it was a popular place to ditch class for a smoke.
The “ruins” consist of a rock facade and some old rusty machinery. Judging by the amount of empty soda cans and spent cigarette butts, it’s still a popular smoke spot.
There’s a lot of vegetation growing through the foundation, which creates some really cool shadows. I took a few pictures with a disposable camera and, if they don’t suck, will post them.
