Make a habit of carrying out untouched restaurant food to give to kids that live on the street

... just started on this site. Do you do this? Roger, my husband, wants to too; but can’t seem to get started. I think its one of 43 goals, too. —cat

it’s amazing how much food people waste. while i was living abroad, i used to frequent the mcdonald’s there. there was always a group of four or five street kids hanging around outside, watching all the people inside eating… i don’t eat many fries, so i would give whatever i had left over to the kids; they were so happy…

it wasn’t much, but it felt good to do…

It’s not always easy finding people to give the food to but when you do, it’s a good feeling! Once I did it, it was easier to do again and it felt wasteful NOT to do it. It’s also a good altruistic diet plan!

This got lots of quick cheers and some comments.

I find it interesting that no one else has adopted this goal.

Are there not homeless (and hungry) people where you live? I’ll bet there are.

Every night here in Chiclayo I pass at least 3 kids (under 13) on the street … sometimes at like 4.30 am. I KNOW they are hungry because when I hand them a box of leftover pizza, they lunge for it and rip it open.

So my new habit is to always carry out untouched leftovers and hand them to a kid on the street AND/OR buy them a burger from a street vendor.

I also sometimes sit and talk with them and try to find out their situation. Where they live or don’t live. Where are their parents? Why don’t they go home? Without being judgemental or lecturing them. Very neutral tone … to try to get the truth from them.

It’s a super easy way to help others who are too young to work even if they wanted to. Hope you will all do the same.
