I did it! I can’t wait to carve em’ up for Halloween. And munch on the seeds.
How I did it: couldn't have been easier... just toss seeds into the ground, and wait.
wtf. why is there a 150 character minimum? Whose stupid requiremet is that? sometimes there isn't 150 character's worth of stuff to say. my point is that it's really really easy. have I used 150 characters yet?
Lessons & tips: Pumpkins drink lots and lots of water. Get a rain barrel; your pumpkins will drink it all in.
One other tip, when you see a pumpkin start to form, lift it gently off the ground and put something under it, like a brick or a wooden box, to keep it from resting on the dirt. Turn it once in a while, but gently so the vine doesn't break. Then you get perfectly round, blemish-free pumpkins. Our jack-o-lanterns were the best on the street!

I grew pumpkins when I was younger, I used to like watchin’ em grow and then carving them on Hallowe’en
Well, I suppose you can eat pie pumpkins, but I’m not a huge fan of pumpkin pie. I’m more interested in the jack o’ lantern type—not the giant kind, but a respectable, gut-the-innards-and-set-it-on-the-porch kind. The only problem is that they take up a lot of space. Also, I’m afraid they will attract the same array of pests that killed most of my buttercup squash plants. But I’d still like to do it, even if I have to cut 40 vine borers out of every plant, because pumpkins are such a cheerful thing to have around.

I planted 6 pumpkin seeds in my vegetable garden on 06/22.
The pumpkins neverammounted to much. We got three pumpkins from the patch, but hte biggest was only 7 or so inches around. So small. I was really expecting more. Will have to try again this year and read up on it some more.
I am going to try and grow my own pumpkin patch.
I don’t think I really know what I am doing but I guess I can Always Try. I have seeds and I am going to get stuff for it and see what will happen then. :~1
My pumpkins are finally growing! They are just small green globes right now, but they seem to get bigger every day. Pumpkin plants really aren’t so attractive, especially since some of the leaves have started to die off. I wonder if I am doing something wrong? We have 7 or 8 small pupkins growing now and it looks like more might be coming out, too. The flowers are so bright orange and pretty.
The original goal was “Grow pumpkins.”
I tried that last year and they didn’t get very far despite the region’s notoriety for ginormous pumpkins. In fact, the vines got all moldy and yucky and sad. I got a few anemic pumpkins out of the deal for the price of a moldy yard.
So this year I said, “Screw the pumpkins.” I planted an artichoke bush instead. This area also used to be the country’s primary artichoke farmland before it became tract housing and strip malls.
The artichoke plant died. I mean, one day it was there, the next day it was dead. Unrecoverable.
So I said, “Screw the artichokes.” And I planted a boysenberry cane. Now that sucker (pun intended) has sent out eeeeevil little shoots and spines and leaves and… muah hah hah hah hah. That baby ain’t going to mold, ain’t gonna up and die. Nope. It’s in a great location, too. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.
my daughter brought the sprouting seed home from first grade in the spring. I planted it in the backyard, not really thinking anything would happen… then all of a sudden, there were huge leaves and vines growing everywhere! We have a book about growing pumpkins and it says you need a female and male flower to make a pumpkin… we have lots of flowers, but I don’t see anything else growing. It’s September now… aren’t the pumpkins supposed to be growing now?
