...at least so far in my life. I prefer to write when I have something to say, and not “on command” or because I need to do so in order to pay my bills.
A couple of times, almost by accident, I’ve wound up with writing assignments, and it’s nice to have those pieces in my portfolio. But I’m just as proud of the writing I’ve done for free (e.g., articles for professional newsletters and marketing materials for nonprofits I want to support).

I got a cheque for $5 for submitting a poem to the kids’ section of the newspaper when I was about 9 years old. It was about the sea. We had someone come to our class to help us develop our poems, so I’m not sure how much of it was my own words, but I was very proud. My mum made copies to send to the family.
I would like to get something substantial published now, but not so much for the money, I know that’s a lost cause, but just to have other people read my work. I guess that’s one of the great things about this website – having people read your stories :)

yes, I’ve been paid a few times, but its a long process of development so I’m sure later on I can make more money out of it, its hard to do voluntary work for so long without anything to show for it so its fantastic when you do get acknowledgement. Keep going!

I’ve been commissioned to write two plays for a small theatre company in Florida.

Getting my story accepted and then getting the check were two of the best moments in my life. It was a bit of a fluke, but I really really want to get more stuff published.

It was for a pay site buying erotica, but it was still a rush to get a small amount of money for my own writing. I hope to do more.
