Correct my posture

This is definitely something I have seen improvement on. One day at Kristals I all of a sudden noticed that my posture was perfect and I hadn’t even noticed. It felt great. That is the only time I have noticed it being that good, but it is definitely much better overall, which is great. I think Yoga and Pilates have a HUGE effect on this, and also keep my back pain under control (it is nonexistent when I keep on top of my Y/P)

Who put those muscles there? 6 months ago

I’ve been doing yoga on and off for a while now, and I thought I knew what it felt like to open my chest and stand tall, but jeez Louise, now I know I’ve been doing it wrong this entire time at boy is it hard.
Now I’m trying to keep my shoulders back ALL THE TIME and constantly thinking to myself, “tuck, tuck, tuck” to keep my tail under and feel my chest, stomach and lower front opening, stretching and strengthening. I just hope I don’t look so stiff that people think I’m wearing a back brace.

Going to the gym 6 months ago

has helped my posture a lot I think. And my capabilities to even put my shoulders back.

It seems to me the best way to work on this one is through exercise. When I was younger, I took dance; every week we’d go through a series of flexibility exercises and dance moves. I remember at my year end recital, sitting cross legged on the floor quite comfortably. I felt as if I was sitting like I ordinarily do, but when I glanced over at myself in a mirror, I was sitting up right with my back as straight as a board! Who would have thought proper posture could feel so natural!
Therefore, my plan here is to find some exercises that will increase my flexibility or strength or whatever it is that makes proper posture easier. I’ll do some research first, but I expect yoga or maybe some dancers stretches would help. I want to learn some proper dancing again too, so many I can knock off two goals at once!

Out of practice 12 months ago

My gran hammered good posture into us when we were children no one was allowed to slouch and she was always there to correct it. Having gone to boarding school however and since being away from home I have fallen very badly out of practice with this one. Really want to get it back becuase it does so much for your appearance and feeling of well being. Also if I can sort mine then I can help Robbie sort his as he has quite bad posture and I feel it might cause back pain in later life

Making a Start! 13 months ago

I’m really making a start on this goal now as I start working again on my balance ball. I really want to get myself sitting up right and walking about with elegance. I always imagine getting this sorted out and I get conscious of how my posture is as I’m walking about, (not so much when I’m sitting down, I’m always slumping and not straightening up!) Anyway, first is to start working on the exercises, pilates and my balance ball that will strengthen my postural muscles, which will really help. Looking forward to making this a lifelong habit too! :)

Feeling stiff. 20 months ago

I feel that whenever I try, I just look stiff. But when I look at others with good posture, they look confident. Ah, well I’ll just keep on trying.

It was hard at first, but now it comes more easily to walk up straight. Stretching and strengthening exercises would probably help.

Back To Life With A Disc Prolapse 23 months ago

A ruptured disc has been keeping me in bed the past week. It’s supposed to now be a lifetime condition that I should deal with. I can prevent it returning by practicing good posture – mine’s as bad as it gets, I guess, if it’s actually given me such a problem. I’m walking the right way as much as possible, whenever it is that I walk, that is. My seating position has much to be desired. Plus, I’ve gotten this list of exercises from my therapist that I should start doing to strengthen my back, so I should start working on those once my pain is more manageable. That’s what this goal’s about.
