I’ve started with a variety of odd things: shoes, school supplies, and toiletries. It turns out that I know someone who works in a clothing room that needs lots of travel sized lotion and stuff like that, so I was able to find homes for the stuff I wanted to get rid of from the linen closet. So far, so good.

I’ve dropped off my clothes at the food (and) clothing shelf and today I put a bunch of books on our coffee shop’s book exchange shelf. Feels good.

Freecycle 20 months ago

is awesome. Everyone should sign up for their local Freecycle right now. Right now!! And if you don’t have one, start one! Go!!!

Ok... 21 months ago

The bulk of it will go through Freecycle, my clothes will go to the local food shelf/emergency shelter, and friends can take whatever they please.

Where to put it? 21 months ago

The easiest answer I suppose is the Salvation Army or Goodwill, and that is probably where the bulk of it will end up. But I’d rather find a book exchange to drop my books at, or people in need to give my clothes to. I like being hands on, and I like knowing this stuff will be going somewhere where it will be used, not onto some shelf. I live in small town Minnesota and there aren’t many options like this around :(

I guess I don’t know what I wanted to accomplish with this entry.

Hannah out.

George Carlin says it pretty well. And now with a move coming up, it makes sense to get rid of my stuff. I have a bunch of CDs I haven’t listened to in years, those I’ll donate to my music store for credit. The rest of the usable stuff (books, clothes, I even found a place looking for VHS donations) I’ll donate. But I’m gonna be a harsh jury this time, no reprieve for my stuff.
