I have 7 female rats and 3 male ones.
I am NOT a breeder – there are more than enogh rats in the pound.
But I love my little furry “babies”.
They are intelligent, fun to watch and you can even train them :)
Mine learned to yawn on command G
Just remember never to keep a singele rat – they need at least one partner of the same sex to be happy as well as a big cage to run and climb.
I raise rats for feeders for my snakes. I have two current female breeders, one current breeder male, one future female breeder, one future male breeder, and a young litter of four.
Personally, I like rats. It’s literally like having an apartment-sized puppy.
My roomate moved out and left behind his snakes (and geckos and salamanders). Then one of the snakes decides not to be hungry when he should have been and boom, I have a pet rat. I am not a rodent person, I never will be.
I couldn’t believe how addicting rats are. My friend (who has 4 now) was getting a rat for her other firend, but she couldn’t take him, so i ended up keeping him, a white and tan rat with red eyes, named casper. My friend then decided to breed her rat (b+w hooded), and had homes if she had girls. the litter consisted of 11 babies (rats can have up to 24!), only one was a girl. Two of the boys died young, probably due to poor nutrition, so i had the 8 brothers (after weaning) plus casper in my dorm (illegally :P, while my roomate has 2 dumbo girls). Another friend said she could take 4, so i have 5 now in my room. Rats are social, and shouldn’t be alone, at least 2 is best. They also need to be cleaned twice a week and have good ventilation. I built my own cage because the ones i liked at the store were too much, it’s a 2 level 1/2 inch gage mesh that sits in a plastic tub, with some doller store ‘toys’(if you do plan on using wire, make sure the wire surface they will be walking/lying on is covered by a mat or something, they can hurt their feet). Rats need to be let out of their cage at least an hour every day, it provides exercise and keeps them stimulated. I usually feed them 2-3 times/day a combo of dog food, cereal, with occasional fruit and treats. it’s important that they not be to skinny or fat, both of these cause health problems. Socializing your rats (playing with them, handleing, handfeeding) is important as well. my boys have never even tried biting, although they chew on fabrics and wood sometimes. They are very smart, and can learn ‘no’. well enough rambling, if you are looking into getting a rat, make sure you have enough time to play with them, but they’re good pets because they’re easy keepers, and really fun!!
Okay, so I wanted a rat, right? A. As in one. So for my 18th b-day I bought myself a rat. I live in a dorm room where only fish are allowed but I sneaked it in. And then I figured the rat would be lonely so I ended up with two. I went to buy my two rats a cage and when the lady saw what I was buying told me they had a rat that was a breeding rat but it was so old that if nobody took it by the end of the day they would have to make it a feeder. She begged me to take it and told me she would give it to me for free. So I now have 3 rats in a dorm room…the good thing is my parents who freaked out when I bought them home for break now love them so if I get caught they have a place to live.
i want a fucking rat. i don’t want a normal rat i want a rat with 2 fucking faces. they’re really rare so ill probably never get one with two faces
