    Opportunity 3 weeks ago

    Hello everyone,
I’m starting a literary revision agency called The Celebrated Linguist. You can apply to be a revision agent (aka editor) at http://www.litrevision.com.

The site is currently under construction, but you can still apply. This is an uncontracted position, where the client would directly pay your fees. June 29 is the planned launch date for the company.

    Sincerely,
    Kayley

IStayMe is getting really excited about Greece!!

Found something useful 3 months ago

I’ve decided I don’t want to stay in school for an extra 6 months to add a comm degree…but I found a school that offers a class on magazine editing so hopefully I will be able to take the class to get some experience

    My Dream 5 months ago

I didn’t really figure out this would make me the happiest person ever if I had it as my career until a few weeks ago. I love writing but I LOVE proofreading papers and finding errors. I even find errors in the books I read. It’s too bad that I would have to go back to school for another degree to do so, but I think it would make me really happy so it would probably be worth it…I just wish I would have figured it out sooner

Interned as an editorial assistant last year. 12 months ago

I did an internship at a children’s publishing house last year and it was one of the best work experiences I’ve ever had. Although it was an unpaid position, I had the opportunity to help write, research and edit a collection of anti-smoking essays by children and pre-teens. It didn’t hurt in the end to have my name included in the credits either! Since that book was released I was able to edit two more books for the same publishing house. Although I’m not working in the field at the moment, this allowed me to prove to myself that I could definitely become an editor in the future, should the opportunity arise.

easy to be a critic 18 months ago

i decided maybe having a goal defined by getting a job (defined by editing critiquing rejecting fixing changing altering) maybe isn’t the most positive and helpful job I’m capable of acquiring. I’ll add this as a suggestion under “find a meaningful job” but it’s no longer going to be a goal.

I hadn’t set out to be an editor but this is where I’ve been lead so far. For the past 2 months, I’ve been the editor of a Chinese Culture website and I enjoy it tremedously.
I’ve wanted a career in journalism. I originally wanted to write for magazines but this has turned out to be a more rewarding experience. It’s amazing :)

    Editor-in-waiting 2 years ago

I’d like to think that I already am an editor, of sorts. My friends like to send their written work to me and have it appraised. I have a sharp eye for detail, and I know about grammar and punctuation. In fact, when I read published novels, the first thing that gets my attention (other than the representation of female characters) is punctuation. Then it’s on to grammer and plot and characterization and so forth. I like to look at both technique and thematics, but I prefer technique because you can’t insult someone’s imagination. I am perfectluy happy to talk thematics with them. I have two brainstorming buddies – who are writing abook together, and like to share it in various stages with me – whom I talk about my own work with. I’m happy to talk thematics, but they know the themes of their own work much better than I. For example, my friend and I both have extremely different views on the spirit and soul in our writing and if it’s two separate entities or if they’re the same thing. I don’t like to comment too much because of my own views, but I am perfectly happy to point out grammatical or punctuation improvements.

And it’s not like I’m overbearing or anything. Everyone who’s shared their work with me (and it can be quite intimidating, pouring your heart out for someone else to read and critique) has said they really appreciate my input.

So that’s why I want to be a professional editor, and I’m already on my way.

I am the editor of a sports newspaper in Bloemfontein, South Africa. It has always been my dream to work in journalism and now I am achieving this. i am looking to get a job solely as a journalist though, i like editing and making a finished product but I’d like to do something different for a change.
