I’ve discovered two new singers that I really like listening to. One is Amy Winehouse. Yeah, she’s a complete crackhead, but her music is really original and fun and I just like it. The other is Vienna Teng. What a great songwriter! I’m so happy to find another Dar Williams-esque neo-folkie to listen to!!!

I’ve liked Two Ton Boa since I saw them open for the Dresden Dolls at the two shows I went to in January. Yesterday I got their album “Parasiticide” in the mail, and it’s awesome.
Locos Por Juana are fantastic. I was just bumming around itunes and found them and actually recognised La Noche from the radio and I really like their stuff. Makes me want to travel this summer…

Working on a Sunday just developed an upside. I just spent some time patrolling the interweb for a band somewhat similar to the Dresden Dolls. I need more of that in my life, ya heard? Anyway… I found Harlequin Jones and downloaded their EP. So far, I’m diggin’ it.

Yesterday I was walking aimlessly through our not-usually-awesome music shop when “Kiss Kiss Kill Kill” by Horrorpops popped up like a sign from god. This could turn into an unhealthy obsession.
Here’s the video for Heading For The Disco?.

but then, like most things, I forgot about it until I was mopey and bored and there it was sitting there on the used rack at the music shop. Excellent.
So far, I’m diggin’ it. I heart Maynard James Keenan with a passion that burns brighter than a thousand suns.

Over the past couple of weeks, I rediscovered Mazzy Star’s “So Tonight That I Might See” album. I had forgotten how much it meant to me. Good times…
a friend reccomended The Cat Empire. I actually really like them and will have to bug him for the CD. Also today I found and instantly fell in love with Beirut. It kind of reminds me of Neutral Milk Hotel and Chicago by Sufjian Stevens. I’m afraid of listening to them too much though lest I loose interest. This stuff is worth savoring!

One of my favorite feelings is the one you get when you get a new album by a band you’re not so sure about, and then BAM! you love it and it loves you and car rides become a little bit giddier for a few weeks. In the past few months, I’ve gotten this feeling from Rilo Kiley, Neutral Milk Hotel and Two Ton Boa. Now I’m on the prowl again. It doesn’t have to be new-new, just new-to-me new.
