I’m working on this as we speak. We have a name (Cosmic Dog Yoga) and a website (www.cosmicdogyoga.com). We just can’t find a suitable space.

Sweet Little Space 2 years ago

Terlingua Desert Lotus is open again. Just being in the room gives me a sense of peace and quiet joy. Its small and not in my ideal location, but its the first dedicated space for healing arts in the area and it just feels good. Its taken me so long to see life as more about the steps along the way- since its always now and we’re always here, there’s not such a hurry to get “there”

just for now... 2 years ago

Just too busy and overwhelmed, plus I like the guaranteed paycheck of teaching somewhere with good management (not to mention regular students, a cleaning crew, etc). It’s about all I can manage just to stay in shape and plan the classes right now.

yoga studio 3 years ago

working on developing my home practice, getting certified thru home course, and finding my place in the local yoga community. The studio is a goal, it is important to me. But more so is the journey there. I do not need a studio or designated physical space to achieve my true goal. I look forward to empowering others to empower themselves.

Here’s the north/east corner, you can see the attached house through the window! The east wall is all windows, and the north wall is enclosed wood shelving. Kiki also enjoys the meditative atmosphere and doesn’t even need a mat.

This is a pretty one of the south/west corner of the room. It’s only about 250 sq ft overall, but 3 of the walls are windows. Princess Mo enjoys the sunshine, as you can see! I’ve been told pets should be banned from the studio, but they love it out there so much. I’ll clean it thoroughly before each session!!

first "class" cancelled 3 years ago

I feel so awful about this! The studio is getting better and better all the time, and my mom has been teasing me about promising her some classes and not following through. So, we scheduled a private class for her for 11am today.

And I woke up feeling AWFUL! I’ve been fighting off a cold all week, and was up half the night coughing and sneezing. I took Nyquil at about 2am and it barely helped. I woke up shaking and without much of a voice, and when she called to ask if I was ready for class she realized I couldn’t follow through with it.

So we’re rescheduled for tomorrow but I feel like such a horrible person right now! She sounded so excited when she called, I think she was really looking forward to this. Plus, as a teacher I should fight through it – she’s got a lot of medical issues so this would have been a VERY gentle class, it wouldn’t have been strenuous at all for either of us.

Although, we’re experiencing a major heat wave in Michigan and the studio is not air-conditioned. A gentle class in 95 degrees would not be a problem for most students (it wouldn’t even be hot enough for Bikram enthusiasts!) but my mom has a weak heart so the room temp probably would not have been advisable. Weather should break by tomorrow, supposedly a cold front is coming through tonight.

Ok well I already did on a very small scale! 3 years ago

I have started my own studio – Xhale Yoga in Minneapolis (www.xhale-yoga.blogspot.com). I currently teach a heart center blend of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga on Thursday evenings. I rent a space at The Center For Performing Arts – is its very low overhead. I also purchased minimal props. I’m looking for any suggestions about marketing.

My dream is to teach full time and run my own yoga studio and also incorporate other holistic practices.

On the way 3 years ago

I teach yoga privately at a friends studio and twice a week at a local university (Texas Lutheran)—figure this is the next logical step.

now the news is out 3 years ago

Well, I posted a tentative opening date and some photos of the studio on my website (www.jeansyoga.com). So, now I am sort of locked into it! At least if I don’t do it, I’ll have to put the embarrassing news on the web – maybe that will be a deterrent.
