"Grow Creativly"
How I did it: I always knew I wanted to go to art school. I took all my art classes in high school and started building a portfolio. I went to some advanced classes that they didn't offer at the school which helped very much. I originally wanted to study fashion, but after looking at a few schools in New York I wasn't sure if fashion was for me. So I looked into visual communications which was discribed as a very open course.
I started going to art school in Chicago. They put me in an algebra class and a computer class where we learned how to use microsoft word. I had 2 art oriented classes, design and rapid visualization. Which to me wasn't very challenging. When I got a chance to move to England i took it and i applied to Leeds College of art and design.
If you are applying to a foriegn school there's a lot of paperwork and hoops to jump through but i think its worth it. So i got an interview and i got accepted. The interview was very tough i had to stand in front of a board why they asked me questions about why i wanted to be there. If anyone asks you that i think the best answer you can give is "because i want to learn"
Anyway, as pretentious as it can be art school is probably one of the best decisions I've ever made.
I'm being challenged and learning new things every day.
Lessons & tips: I've learned not to just do , but to question what i do as an artist.
I've learned new methods and techniques and concepts.
Don't listen to people when they tell you your thinking too big, they are the ones who are thinking too small. Prove them wrong.
Vis Com is deffinetly a good open course if your not sure what you want to do yet. You can experiment with a lot of things.
