I raided the Simplicity .99 pattern sale and bought 10 patterns. Then I went to Jenny’s Fabrics and bought some of their $1.69 yd. fabric and pre-washed it last night. Now all I have to do is apply work.

Today I started 2 gypsy skirts. One is satiny fabric in pink and black and the other is cotton in orangey earth tones. But I can’t do much else until I find the interfacing.

Inspiration
I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile. The Tyra show did a piece on it as well, so I actually went to a thrift store to look for jeans. Then I remembered why I don’t wear jeans…I look awful in them. But, I do hope to make a jeans skirt or something soon out of patchwork from different shades of worn denim.
More Ideas
After reading some links I had to ask myself why are some of these people using brand new jeans. Not only is that the expensive way to go, they are making a lot more work for themselves.
Plenty of worn jeans are available in your personal stash, thrift stores and yard sales.
The bit about the dremel tool reminded me that they used that on the Tyra show too, as well as splashing paint and then washing them in a machine.
Personally, I like taking several pairs of jeans, cutting them into strips, and then weaving those strips into the legs of the jeans I plan to wear.
In the ’ 70’s I used to embroider on jeans, so I may throw some of that in there as well as adding some crochet granny squares. Oh to be 22 again!
And of course to make the look work, I should macrame’ a belt eh?
Oh, and my favorite way to add bleach is to take powdered bleach and sprinkle it into the washer on the spin cycle.
Over the last few days I knitted a wispy little shawl, a poncho, and I’m almost done with a shrug. I also knitted a comfy headband…not like those tight ones from the drugstore that always give me a headache. So at least I’m making some progress on my new wardrobe.
I’m also tossing out clothes that are too worn to wear anymore. I hate to let some of my favorites go, but everything deserves an end to it’s story. No one will ever accuse me of not getting my money’s worth out of my clothes.
