    Opinions 7 months ago

It’s easy to forget sometimes, that not everyone I know needs every human being to have the same rights and paid the same respect, the way I do. That even people that are against discrimination in one area, have these weird opinions on homosexuality, even if it just stems from a lack of understanding. Noone always understands everything and everyone, we’re just too complex for that. And sometimes I feel like I have a lot of reading and meeting to do before I don’t feel ignorant anymore. Still a lack of understanding, paired with a lack of sympathy can be the very beginning of a conflict and maybe even hate.

Can you say that some people are more equal than others without outing yourself as hypocritical?

Everyone has a right to their opinion. Of course. But I am sometimes confused when I meet smart, gentle people who I automatically assume share some of my values by those same qualities, and find out they don’t, because they have a diffirent background or any other kind of issue.

In those moments, I hate the world and the fact that in my lifetme, I won’t see it changed for the better.

I have an idea 8 months ago

Or more an idea of an idea, but now I’m looking into somehow including sexuality and gender as topics of my bachelor thesis on Digital Media (Yeah, I do know how it sounds… but I have to try!). It bugs me a little that I cannot clearly define an argument on this yet, and also, that I’m not sure WHY this topic feels so important to me. Maybe working on this report stuff some more will shed light on both questions.

I’ve been “researching” for a few days and came upon this quote that I just had to share:

“Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?” – Ernest Gaines

Put Words into Action 9 months ago

I always get so defensive when the topic of LGBT life, and especially Homosexuality in the context of Human Rights is broached in a diverse party, I guess I should really take action, instead of just talking about rights and politics and celebrate from afar when same-sex marriage is legalized in another country that is not my own (GO NORWAY!!!).

I hope I can find a way to include this in my career plans, too, so that it can be a continuous thing. This is definitely a long-term goal.

In order to be more educated, not only did I take an LGBT studies class but also did some volunteer work for EqualityOhio. It felt good to do something for human rights and also it was personal because some of my best friends are gay.

Starting my own non-profit 3 years ago

Starting off small, Queerly Forward Ministries is on the move! So far, we have fed homeless people, taught at a gay community event about how God does not hate us, and counseled people individually online. Now a local organization is going to give us bandwidth space on their website, and will assist us in becoming a 501c3.

The new year holds some big promises for QFM. If you’re curious or you want to talk, you can email us at queerlyforwardseattle@yahoo.com

We look forward to hearing from you.

You are as God made you…keep your head up!
