I’ve finished the knitting part… now I just have to sew the lining in!

C’est fini! I’m finally done with the bag. I’ve knit, frogged, knit, washed and trimmed, and now I just have to wait for it to dry. I am so pleased with myself – it’s the first thing I’ve made that’s not a scarf. It is rather shallow, too much so to be an everyday handbag, but to go to a cafe with a book, or some knitting, it’d be just right.

I really like the knit bags – I’ll have to make more of them. I’ve always been particular about my handbags; creating them myself will be the only way I can get My Perfect Bag with the correct number of pockets for the technology and a fully coordinated makeup bag and ‘wallet’ pouch. This one is just the first of many.

Always read your pattern through several times before knitting all of the pieces! It seemed so easy to make the four panels; I didn’t notice the part where I was supposed to decrease on one side. So I’ve had to unravel and reknit each of the pieces.

I bound them up last night so all I have to do today is finish the handles.

I’ve finished one out of the four panels for Unbiased. I think it looks lovely. The sari yarn is rather forgiving, which is good, because it’s a challenge to keep even. The yarn can vary wildly in weight as you work down the thread.

It’s back to plan A. Yay for Knitty. I almost feel like I can’t call myself a knitter until I’ve done something from this site. So I’m knitting up Unbiased for myself. The only thing is that I’m doing it on a size 10US needle, rather than the 8. My yarn is simply not going to be knitted on an 8. Perhaps I’ll put a lining in it as well. I adore the chartreuse lining showin in the CCB in SNB. I think a really brilliant orange would go well with the yarn I’m working with.

Apparently there are varying qualities of sari yarn. Mine is not so great. It’s wildly fuzzy! I have a bunch of it hoarded, so I need to find a new project for it. Something where it’s knit straight across. The damned increaases in unbiased are nigh unto impossible because the yarn varies in weight considerably as you move along the strand.

Plan B: knit the chinese charm bag from SnB with sari yarn. In the meantime I’m going to have a whack at crochet. I need to get some 10 circs for CCB.

I brought the sari yarn a while back, so I have everything I need to make this one. I’m in love with the chinese charm bag from stitchnbitch, but I’d have to buy the yarn, a size 10 circular needle, and the handles. Frugality is winning out. Not that I mind, the sari yarn is very cool and I think it’d make a nice summer bag. Maybe I’ll have enough yarn to make a makeup bag and an ipod cozy so it has accessories. I’m going to cast on tonight when I’m back from the gym. We’ll see how long this takes.

    oooh. felting 2 years ago

I am so going to do this after the holidays. ATM I have three or four things on needles; I’m in the midst of a need to craft gifts for xmas. But I’m in love with felted bags. They look so sturdy and wonderful. And natural fibers rock!

Done my first bag. It was easy, quick and fun. And it’s quite practical. I already have 2 friends placing orders for the same bag :D
