Karla is tired as hell after working forever, again.
I know rudimentry German, from living in Switzerland. I can count fully from 1 through over 1000. I knows colors and random objects, also random words but nothing to create proper sentences.
How I did it: I download a program called byki.
Along with this I researched sentence structure.
Combining these I managed to learn basic words and sentences. Although I would not be confident in an actual german confrontation I have made progress towards that, being my long term goal.
Lessons & tips: Don't force yourself to do large amounts of study a day this will just make you hate doing. A casual pace alws you to understand what is going on properly.
Resources: Byki 4 Express - This program has downloadable cards you can work your way through.
It helps with pronounciation and is repeated throughout the exercise making it easy to remember words and phrases.

This ain’t going so well. Got a feeling I’ll be about as good a German speaker as Kennedy by the time of the World Cup. Scheise.
Got to learn a few words of German before the World Cup next year. France 98 was embarassing, especially considering I did 5 years of it at school. Japan 2002 was a bit of non-starter, as was Portugal 2004.
I’m going to start with one word or phrase a day, not including “guten tag,” “danke,” “auf wierdersehen,” “ein bier, bitte” and numbers 1-10.
Word to learn by tomorrow: Sorry/excuse me!
