How I did it: I drove to Maine. I don't like that it makes you write a lot about how you did this... I ate lobster, went to a festival, saw where they make boats, etc.
Lessons & tips: Like any trip.. ask locals for advice on what to see and do.

I went through Maine on my way to Canada in Summer 2006. Ate lobster on the beach, went swimming (very cold!), and saw the only Moose of the trip!
We’ve got less than two months before we leave for Maine. We’re both so excited and have a lot of things planned. We’ve got all the lodging booked in both Maine and Mass. We’re planning to take our time driving up the coast of Maine by stopping in all the small coastal towns before we get to Bar Harbor. We’re planning hiking trips, sea kayaking, a lobster boat ride, shopping, and touring a local brewery and winery! We’ll be spending a lot of time in Acadia National Park. The pictures I’ve seen are just breath-taking. And we’ve also made a rule that we will eat lobster at least once every day we’re there!
We’ve decided to cross boston off our list of stops. It will save us money and allow us more time in Maine. Last night I booked our cottage at Edgewater Motel and Cottage. I’m so excited. I need to re-do our itenterary and budget but I’m getting so excited. Four more months to go!
I’ve done some more planning here. One of my favorite hobbies is planning out a vacation. I like to have an itinerary when we vacation but it’s always extremely loose and more of a list instead of timed events. I find we spend more time seeing and doing instead of figuring out what to do next.
I also have our budget set for the three town trip. I’ve figured out where we’ll be staying in Mass and Maine. I’ve also got some fun activities lines up for all three towns.
Next month I’ll start making our lodging reservations.
Looks like we’re going to be stopping in Boston for 2 nights on the way to Maine. We’ve both always wanted to visit and although we’ll only have 1 full day to explore we plan to take it easy and see what we can. I’m really excited about this little addition to our trip! YAY!
I think we’ve settled on the dates for our Maine/Mass trip June 20th – July 5th. We’ll spend June 22 – June 27th in Maine. Right now we’re really liking both the price, location, and amenities of these little cottages on the bay. Edgewater Motel and Cottages It will allow us to cook our own food if needed and it has some privacy.
Every other year we plan a trip up the east coast to the mountains of Mass to visit Terri’s family. This year we decided to combine it with an extra side vacation to Maine, specifically the Bar Harbor/Acadia area.
I’m not sure we’ve decided when we’re going but the plan is to spend 5-6 days in Maine before heading back down to Mass to visit family.
I had a great, albeit short, trip to Maine last week. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of this beautiful state!
