Build a Canoe

I am honing my skills on a wreck I bought last summer for $25. It is an elderly fiberglass 16 foot prospector type that had its back (keel) broken along with all the stuff that would not survive being bent like a wishbone. Thats EVERYTHING! The skin is repairable, but the keel, gunwales, seats, decks all need to be completely replaced. either they are broken in several pieces or rotten.
What makes me want to tackle this? Its money plain and simple, and the fact that I need to get into the water. I have not been canoeing in over two years. This from a guy that went on extended trips every 3 weeks in season until 2004.
I’m going nuts!

Always wanted to build an old canoe like Lewis and Clark detailed in their travels.

I think I just may be able to learn while teaching, if that makes any sense. But wait. Let me check out a few other options.
